Now I know the day I'm going to die, life's a bit different for me. I don't take showers or brush my teeth. My bed is never made, I don't take my clothes to be washed, don't eat much either. What's the point in doing all that bullshit when I have less than 30 days to live.
They told me at my retrial yesterday that the verdict was guilty and that the necessary measure will be taken in the form of execution. That's just a fancy way of saying that they'll be stuffing me in the electric chair and zapping me till my heart stops.
I may be big talking now but the thought of it runs my blood cold. I'm terrified, I try not to think about it cause when I do, I struggle to breath and feel suffocated. The prison shrink wants me to talk about it but I can't. How can you talk about how you feel about dying.
There's some noise outside my heavy padlocked door and it opens. Two officers stand outside it they must be those high ones that are allowed to shoot people, their chests are embedded with all these fancy badges and stars, pathetic really if you ask me, which no one is.
"Like you to come with us mister," one says he grabs me tightly by the arm heaving me upwards.
"Get the fuck of me," I try to shake out his grasp but he's got me tight.
"Nice and easy there boy," the other says yanking me towards the door. I give up on struggling and make myself limp. They drag me to a small room that I didn't know even existed and stuff me on a chair in front of a table. There's a large black mirror on one side of the room. They leave shutting the door securely behind them. I sit there nervously wiping my sweaty hands on my orange jumpsuit two sizes to big. All of a sudden the door slams open and two men and a woman walk in all Carrying folders and wearing suits. I gulp not liking where this is going.
"Are you soda amazo?" The lady takes a seat in front of me and whips through the folder with speed I've never seen before.
"Yes I am, what's happening exactly." The two men walk to either side of the table and sit.
"You are nineteen years old?" She asks ignoring my question.
"Yes but what's happening here," I ask leaning forward in irritation.
"You are being held in Chicago state prison for murder of conner Johnson and reeve Carter." She continues calmly.
"I didn't kill them, I swear I didn't even know them," I fall back in my seat my head throbbing.
I tried not to think about all those trials I decide to go through to show I was innocent, that I could never kill two full grown men but I feel myself being pulled into memory lane.
I hear shouts from a dark alleyway on my way home from football practice, I walk towards the noise cautiously
"Hello, who's there," I call out to the darkness. There's no reply I hear grunts. I get out my phone flashlight out and shine it on the direction of the sound. A man's on the ground covered in blood there's another beside him groaning in pain, the sight is gruesome I feel bile rise up I swallow it down and take a shaky step towards them and all of a sudden I trip over a rock.
"Fuck," I whisper horrified, I'm covered in their blood, I scramble up dripping with the red liquid.
I hear sirens a police car arrives and parks at a shocking speed two officers come out holding guns straight at me. "Hands in the air,"
I stare bewildered, in seconds two more cars arrive and some more officers climb at pointing guns like I'm some wanted convict.
"Hands up in the air where we can see them."
Trembling with fear I slowly raise my hands revealing my bloodstained fingers. A man walks quickly towards me twists my arms behind my back and I hear him say something I've heard in a dozen movies.
"Your under arrest for the murder of reeve carter and conner Johnson, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say now will be used in court." I hear the click of the heavy silver handcuffs and next thing I know is I'm being pulled in a police car.
The lady's voice brings me back to the present."Are you listening Mr amazo,"
"Do I have a choice?" I sigh slumping back on my seat.
"We know you didn't kill those men, hell we all do," her robotic face and programmed voice breaks and she looks more human. I stare at her shocked, my heart thumping in my chest.
"Then..then...then why am I here, Why are you guys going to kill me for something you know I didn't do. What the fuck is going on here!" I shoot out my seat shaking with rage.
"Please calm down sir," the man in the black suit tries to sit me back down but I push him away roughly.
"Get the fuck off me I'm sick and tired of being manhandled like an animal." He obliged and keeps a safe distant away from me.
The lady looks distraught "Mr amazo we understand your anger towards the situation but we need you to engage a positive outlook on this-"
I stare at her, literally just stare at her, with the most dirtest look I have ever given. "A positive outlook?" I whisper my blood running cold. "Are you serious, a positive outlook," I let my voice drop my voice to a whisper.
"I've been lock up in a prison cell for almost a year, my names all over the papers talking about how I'm a dangerous phycopath who killed two men in cold blood."
I move towards her lowering my voice even more." I've been tortured physically, mentally. My family has undergone so much pain and backlash from the country that they had to move to Australia to protect themselves and I've just recently been told that I'll be killed for my actions. Killed. And your telling me that you knew all along that I was innocent and that you just watched me from the sidelines. And that I should have a positive outlook on all this."
"Mr amazo we're trying to-"
"I was just a scrape goat wasn't I... to blame someone for the murder, to escape the shame that you couldn't find the guilty guy." None of them would meet my eye and I knew I was right.
"Fuck you," I say, my voice dripping with disgust." Fuck all of you."
"The man that killed those men are still out there, out on his blood hunt." The lady loses all her professional composure and looks desperate. "A body was found yesterday in the outskirts of this city, a teenage girl, with the evidence found at the first crime scene we were able to link the two together and we..well....need help," she pulls out a bunch on papers, places a pen on top and pushes the it towards me. I give her a questioning face.
"Sign this Mr amazo and your life will immediately change forever. Trust me."
