Hello again! Thanks to anyone who's read what I've written so far! I already have a few fans:) Eeek! (excited girl squeal!)

On to the next bit, then!

Chapter 1:

"LANDER! THERE ARE BISCUITS AND BACON! DON'T LET THEM GET COLD!" I heard Kelty screaming at me as I forced open my eyes and sat my sleep-deprived body up. Last night was a nightmare. Literally.

I glanced over at the clock and flopped back down into bed, covering my head with my comforter. 4:49 A.M. It's a wonder our landlord didn't kick us out and the neighbors didn't complain. They probably all just adored Kelty too much to really care enough. Most of the people in the complex made it a point to keep to themselves, but Kelty broke all barriers with her mother-like attitude and kindness. Everyone, and I'm not joking or exaggerating, in the building knew Kelty.

"Rise and shine, sleepyhead! I know you like your bacon!" Kelty's voice came lilting into my room as I heard my door crash open. Kelty, her voice usually kind and calming, now sounded like a siren. Of course, this was how it always worked when she had to get up early. Everyone had to suffer as much as she did in that matter.

"Merrrrrrrrf." I mumbled into my pillow, hoping she would translate that to, "Get the hell out, please."

"You want me to force you to get up? Well, alright, then!" I grabbed the edges of my mattress, knowing what was coming next as Kelty, small as she was, managed to flip it over and off the bed frame.

"And why does Adam like you again?" I said from underneath the mattress, wincing at the ache in my back.

"Well, for starters, I'm - "

"Rhetorical question. Now go to work or whatever. I'll eat the stupid bacon."

"That's the spirit!" Kelty squealed and clapped her hands, as I heard her footsteps retreat. I could picture clearly in my mind her cackling and skipping like the maniac she was.

I slowly got up, and Kelty popped her head in one more time, smiled softly at me, and bounded out of sight. I heard the door close and the click of the lock, and knew I was alone. Adam left even earlier than Kelty, but at least he respected the sanctity of sleep.

I eyed my closet, wary to peek inside. It was a Saturday. And Fridays were Kelty's shopping day. Which meant she had more than likely bought me something to wear. Something frilly. And pink.

I sighed, walking over and wincing, pulling open the door. To my astonishment, Kelty had actually listened to my pleas and had axed trying to make me look like her. In place of the usual mini skirt and blouse, there was a nice pair of skinny jeans, a black coat of some kind, and a floral-looking tank top that I would wear under it. To my surprise, it wasn't atrocious. It was a shirt I would actually wear, and that I actually kind of liked, even though I preferred plain clothes and laying low in the background.

I quickly pulled on the clothes, knowing I was about to ruin the ensemble with my shoes. I had three pairs, even though Kelty had tried many a time to get me new ones. My work boots, my short heels for "classy events," and my ratty, dirty, but utterly comfortable green Converse.

I ran out into the kitchen, gulping down any and all food that I saw laying on the table, seeing as I hadn't eaten last night. I looked at the stove clock, groaning when it only said 5:12.

I made my way back sluggishly to Kelty and Adam's bathroom, since it was biggest. They let me use it when they weren't there. I grimaced at myself. My hair was sticking up at odd angles, probably because I hadn't taken a shower last night so the hairspray was still in it. A lightbulb went off in my head and I could have beaten myself against the wall. I had already dressed without taking a shower, and I was too lazy to take off the clothes I was already going to wear for the day. I would just have to make sure I wore perfume. A lot of it.
