It took us three months to rebuild the Darlington name. Three months for the world to forget Katie Darlington, her suicidal mother and fatherless family. Three months for me to forget about my fathers death and try to move on.
Three months for the Darlington name to crumble to pieces once again.
After slipping into my Valentino heels and hoisting my handbag over my shoulder, I was ready for what Hilton Secondary School had in store for me on my first day back. After three months of attempting to rebuild myself, I've only gained an attitude and a bitter memory of the events of what happened after my father was buried.
I grabbed the small Darlington perfume that lay on the table next to the door and sprayed myself, taking in a deep breath before opening the door and facing the real world after being away from it for so long. After preparing for the flashes of cameras and shouting and screaming I got what I had least expected.
Instead I got the woman who had addressed multiple letters to my house for the past three months. The woman who had wanted to see me suffer ever since the incident of 2015. The woman who wanted to ruin my life. The same way I'd ruined hers.
I released a breath I didn't realise I was holding, "Please. Not today,"
"Security finally let me in," she sighed, leaning against the door frame, car keys in hand, "it took them a while but after a few empty threats they let me in,"
I shook my head, "You need to go,"
"I need justice," she spat, "I need justice for what happened to my daughter,"
"It was two years ago-"
"I don't care! You don't deserve to be happy, you don't deserve to be out here, you should be in a prison,"
I swallowed and readjusted my bag on my shoulder, "Who said I was happy?"
"Ohhhh, how could I forget? Daddy Simmons has gone away to the Big Man upstairs hasn't he?" she smirked.
"How dare you-"
"On second thought he's not up there. He's burning in hell,"
"Along with Phoebe," she smacked me. Hard. I held my burning cheek as my personal security guard finally approached us.
"Is everything ok? Why aren't you in the car yet," he looked to Mrs Thomas, "you shouldn't be here Miss,"
"You're going to get what's coming to you Katie. Just you wait," she spat before turning around and leaving.
I released another breath I didn't realise I was holding and turned to my security guard, "Tell Henry he can go home I'm not going anywhere today,"
He shook his head and followed me into my house, shutting the front door behind me, "Your mum said you have to go to school-"
"I don't care, what she said. I'm staying home," he grabbed my forearm and gave me a stern look, "you seem to be forgetting who I am sir. You seem to have forgotten your place," he was massive compared to me, "so I'm only going to say this once, get your filthy working class hands off me,"
He sighed before letting go of my arm and watching me walk towards my room. After my encounter with the devil itself I'd rather not go to school today, or any day for that matter. I sat on the ottoman on the end of my bed and shot Cassandra a quick text.
Me: Cba for school today, not coming in x
Cass❤️: Cool, we'll be over in ten x
Me: We?
I rolled my eyes once realising she meant she was bringing all of the Elite over instead of herself. I knew they would have questions, but I also knew they wouldn't have the cheek to ask. As long as I could keep up this façade things would be ok and they wouldn't even notice how bad I've been for the past three months. Just keep smiling.
Then they'll leave you alone.

"I've been gone for three months and Fat Susie got knocked up? By who?" I gasped, a hand over my chest as Tyler and Mikayla cracked up with laughter."I don't know but I'm pretty sure it was Paul, I knew he had a thing for fat tings," Archie snorted, checking out the fresh pimple that sat on his right cheek, "Jesus Christ where did you come from?"
"You're probably stressed," I shrugged.
Cassandra scoffed, "You've been stressed for the past three months and your skin is perfect," the room fell silent. No one spoke a word as Cassandra uttered a small apology.
"Where's Harry? I haven't seen him in ages," I frowned, ignoring her apology and changing the subject. She didn't really have anything to be sorry for, it wasn't that deep.
"Working on some project or something, he said we'll know about it today but I don't know what it could be to be honest," Tyler shrugged.
"Well hopefully it's something nice, something to lift our spirits. Life's been a shit show for this one," I sighed, pointing to myself.
And as if on cue, all our phones chimed at once, each of us as puzzled as the other. I ignored it however the rest of them went to check it, their faces dropping as they turned to look at me.
"What?" before anyone could even answer, my mother burst into my room, a magazine in hand and tears streaming down her cheeks.
"How could you? You've ruined this family," she spat, throwing the magazine at me as I sat there, brows furrowing with confusion.
I read the magazine title but was still confused. What was going on?
"Katie, Harry sold you out. He's exposed you,"
And in a matter of seconds, the Darlington name crumbled to pieces once again. And I looked to the end of the article to see what was written
Long live the Queen. by Harry Collins.
