Everyone noticed her as soon as she walked into the bar. It was hard not to; her bright blue hair almost radiated in the dark-lit room. By contrast her outfit was dark as night, not a single piece of clothing a color other than black. She had many eyes on her as she walked through the tables to the edge of the bar, but she didn't meet any of them as she sat down in the back corner, waiting patiently for the bartender to greet her.
He looked at her warily from his table, taking a sip from his glass before glancing around the room. A group of men not far off from him were talking quietly amongst themselves, each one taking turns to look at her every once in a while. His grip on the glass tightened but he sat calmly. He couldn't help but feel the need to protect her, which was odd given his nature.
She seemed unbothered by the looks that she was receiving. Some looks were lustful, others in disgust. Oddly colored hair was rare around this area, so it was met with both awe and confusion most of the time.
After being served her own drink, she glanced around and met his eyes briefly before looking away and taking a sip. He couldn't read her expression, but he frowned as a feeling of recognition shot through him. Where had he seen her before?
His attention was immediately brought to the group of men he was watching previously as one of them stood up, taking a quick gulp of his drink before staggering slightly in her direction. The man stopped in front of her, obstructing the view until he leaned against the bar, allowing a view of her face. She gave a slight smile as the man talked to her. The man put one of his hands on her shoulder and she shrugged him off, visibly uncomfortable. The man laughed and put his hand on her thigh instead.
Before anyone could react, she thrust her leg up between the man's legs and he groaned loudly, toppling over onto the ground in a pitiful mess. She simply crossed her legs and took another drink, looking away from the man. The bartender only nodded at her before barking at the man lying on the ground and then turning back to his other customers. He watched as the man slowly pulled himself off the floor and shot her a look, limping back to his group and grumbling under his breath.
He couldn't help but chuckle, looking back over at her. She had finished her drink and was waiting patiently for the bartender to come back around to her. Standing up, he slowly made his way to the bar and leaned against it a few chairs down from where she was, waiting for the bartender who quickly came to him.
"One more for me, please," He asked. "Oh, and her next one is on me."
The bartender nodded and quickly made the drinks, placing them in front of each of them. She looked up at him and he nodded, raising his glass up in a silent 'cheers'. She gave him a small nod and took a small sip, her eyes not leaving him. He looked away for a few moments before looking at her again. She looked extremely out of place regardless of her outfit, having a very petite build and soft features. Her expression though was hard and as if she had seen too much in her young life, which surprised him. He was still bothered by the fact that he felt he knew her from somewhere. But where?
He slowly made his way over to her, making sure to leave more space between them than the last unfortunate soul. She raised an eyebrow at him but didn't say anything. He took a drink before leaning against the bar and saying, "That was quite a show."
A small smile formed at the corners of her mouth. "He deserved it."
He chuckled. "He deserves more than you think. He's gotten away with a lot of shit here."
"Oh, I know," She said darkly, glaring over at the group. "But that's for another night. I'm not working right now."
He raised an eyebrow at her before realizing exactly where he knew her from. "Azelya?"
She looked back at him before giving him a full smile, one that he thought he'd never see again. "I was wondering how long it would take for you to recognize me. Good to see you, Kael."
"Well you change your look every time I see you." He looked around the room before turning back to her. "What are you doing here?"
"Even angels need a little chaos now and then," She responded, shrugging before taking a drink. "I like to find bars in my nights off and stir up some harmless fun."
He laughed at that. "This must be a new hobby of yours; you used to never go against the rules."
She only smiled. "Well, someone told me once that we can't be good all the time."
They smiled at each other softly and finished their drinks, ordering another round.
"So what's an all-powerful being like you doing in a small-town bar away from everything?" She asked, nudging him.
He grinned. "Can't a demon have a peaceful night?"
"Not you!" She laughed. "You've caused the majority of the havoc that I've had to clean up!"
"Why do they keep assigning you to me?" He asked, not necessarily to her.
Shrugging, she took a drink and answered, "Maybe they think I'll eventually save you one day."
"They should know better."
She shot him a small smile before looking down at the bar top. He hadn't changed a bit.
He finally sat down in the seat next to her and sighed. "You should keep the blue hair. It really suits you."
She took a drink before answering. "You know that it wouldn't go over well with them."
"It would if you worked with me."
She laughed. "We both know how that conversation goes, Kael."
He stayed silent. Yes, he knew exactly how it went. They'd had it multiple times before. He sighed and looked down at his drink. "So, what's your plan for tonight?"
Shrugging, she looked off at nothing in particular. "I'm not sure yet. Probably have a few drinks and then go back."
"Come spend the night with me?"
She looked over at him to find dark eyes waiting for her answer. She knew she shouldn't. But then again, how many times did she tell herself that in the past for the same results to happen? One more time wouldn't cause any harm.
Smiling, she nodded her head. "Just one more night."
He smiled back. She always said that.
