Craig and I

Chapter Five

I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was go and get some ice cream. Amanda was looking at every nook and cranny examining the city the city. I was sweating but slowly and shortly the temperature dropped as the sun went down into the horizon.

"Um why is the sun setting it's only five o'clock" Amanda questioned as she look behind her as the sun set into the horizon.

"Yeah, this is northern America and when it's winter the sun sets sooner" I answered and I kept looking forward.

"Dad.....it's summer" she said as she raised one eyebrow at me.

"It's probably just because I'm hungry"

"Let's eat then"

"Sure, I'll order Chinese"

"YES"

Three hours go by and me and Amanda as sitting on boxes eating Chinese food of a table made out of four cardboard boxes with a blanket covering it. I didn't have much money on me from buying gas and snacks on our voyage to Montana from Mississippi. I would start work tomorrow and I more than half of the boxes hadn't been emptied out so stuff such as lamps and books hadn't been placed in rooms. Amanda had put all of her boxes in her room and while i'm at my eight to five job as a college professor Amanda would empty the rest of the boxes and fix her room.

"Dad when do you have the day off?" Amanda asked as she was trying to grab a piece of chicken with chopsticks.

"I haven't even started my first day why are you suddenly talking about my free time" 

"Well all day I've been thinking about you going on your first date with Craig" she says as she smiles looking down.

"I get my first day off on the weekend considering I'm a college professor"  

"Well call Craig and set up a first date" she said while slightly raising her voice.

"It's not a first date" I said annoyingly.

"He doesn't have to know that" she said while smirking.

I looked up at Amanda and saw she was smiling and laughing.

*The next morning 

Waking up at six o'clock when you haven't slept in more than 40 hours is kind of annoying and all you wanna do is throw away the alarm clock and go back to sleep....although I'm also responsible for the education of more than 250 student in medical science.

"DAD TURN YOUR ALARM OFF I WANNA SLEEP IT*S BEEN FOUR MINUTES JUST TURN IT OFF" Amanda scream at the top of her lungs.

I turn of the alarm clock and get out of my bed, I start walking towards Amanda's room and open her door.

"Next time you scream like that you're going to work with me and I know how much you hate school" I say as I'm sweating from sleeping under a blanket in a room without an AC.

"Wow dad since when did you become so muscular? When did you get abs?" she asks as she laughs.

I stare at her with a confused look on my face. I look down and look at my abs and muscles.

"I don't know I've had them for a while from working out"

"Well it's gonna work with Craig"

"You're really obsessed with Craig aren't you

"Welp....yeah" she answers as she throws the blanket over her body.

I exit Amanda's room and I go into my room. As I open my wardrobe to see two coat hangers one with my black jeans and my blue suit next to it and a pair of brown shoes on the floor, I get a call. The phone number didn't seem familiar to me but I still answered.

"Hello Darcy speaking how may I help you?" I say into the phone as I try to put on my pants with one hand.

"Yo wassup bro" a voice screams into the phone.

"Craig?" I say out loud confused.

As Craig said something in the phone I could hear someone running in the hallway outside. I look at the door as Craig is continuously saying "Hello?" into the phone. Amanda busts in the room and she immediately starts gesturing that I should talk to Craig.

"Oh sorry I was distracted. You were saying?" I say as Amanda is jumping up and down.

"I was wondering if you would want to meet up today?  

As Craig said that I put my hand over the speaker on the phone and told Amanda what he said. Amanda was jumping up and down  in excitement as I was trying to decide what to say.

"Sorry for keeping you on hold, Um I have to work today so I'm sorry not today. Why not this weekend?" I tell Craig.

"Why don't I come visit you at work?" Craig suggested.

"Uhhhhhhhhh I guess?" I answered uncomfortably.

"Great, where do you work?"

"I work at our old college. I'm a a professor in medical and chemical science. Meet me where we ate lunch in college when a squirrel took one of your meatballs"

"Oh yeah I remember that" he said as he was laughing.

Craig suddenly hang up without a goodbye. I never told him what time I start so he will probably be there before I even get there. Amanda suddenly exits the room as she screams with excitement. I stare at the clock and twenty minutes had past. I run to the bathroom that is in my room and I jump into the shower. I didn't have time to take a proper shower because I had very little time to get dressed, eat breakfast and to either drive there or take the bus to work.

Staring at my open closet trying to find a appropriate outfit for my first day as a medical science professor. Teaching in front of 250 students at once, each lecture being three hours long four times a day is kind of a bitch job but I've always wanted to be a teacher.

"DAD IT'S 9:12 YOU START IN 17 MINUTES" Amanda screams at the top of her lungs again.

I run out of my bedroom and sliding down the stairs and out of the front door. Campus is a fifteen minute drive away and luckily I remembered to pick up my dads car he had left for me for when I got here. I get into the car and I start the engine. 

As I'm driving through town I look around every corner of where I can see. I'm driving thirty in a twenty-five lane and as I was about to go faster I see campus and smash the breaks. As I exit the car I seem like one of those stereotypical professors who's late for work and has a coffee cup in his hand and a one strap bag over my shoulder. After I locked my car I see Craig stretching while listening to music in the front yard right outside of campus. He notices me staring at his muscles and he walks over to me...
