Karson's POV

In a way, my life has always been kind of a mess. My mom died when I was 8, my father is rarely home anymore, and I swear I haven't had a best friend in years, thanks to moving around so much. But honestly, I didn't mind the mess. I kinda liked it. Messy is fun. To a certain extent.

Once again here I was, unpacking my stuff in a new house, in a new state. My dad was gone, probably at some meeting, not missing me.

Although it was never said, I know I'm expected to unpack the whole house. And considering the size of this place, it will take me at least a week. It was times like these that I miss having people I can depend on. I've accepted the fact I probably will never have that again.

As I pulled out my Polaroid box, I had an urge to look through them. The first one was a picture my dad had taken of my mom and I. Before she passed away and my dad checked out emotionally.

It hard for me to remember, but I do have a few memories of when we were a happy family. I would give anything to have that again.

I glanced at a few more, finding pictures of my old friends, and recent pictures I've taken. I noticed every one I found from the last few years didn't have a single person in them. Not even me.

My thoughts were interrupted by shouting from outside my window. Curious, I gazed out and saw three boys near my age skateboarding around the neighbors driveway. They didn't look related, so I assumed one of them lived there.

I wasn't in the mood to put all my Polaroids on my bedroom wall, so I wandered into the hall to grab another box. But I had already gone through all the ones I had taken inside. Which meant I had to go grab more from the porch, and lug them inside. When I brought some things in earlier I nearly died so I was curious to see what would happen this time. I opened the front door and warm air hit me. After all it is California.

I strolled down the driveway toward the moving truck, as there were no boxes on the porch either.

Going to grab a couple, I stacked two and attempted to pick them up. They were much heavier than I expected, and I ended up standing there struggling.

"Do you need help?"

A male voice spoke from behind me.

I jumped, startled by the sudden appearance. Spinning around, before me stood one of the guys from outside the window.

"Uhm, yeah that would be awesome actually."

I replied, studying the guy in front of me with his blue/green eyes and light blonde hair. He was very attractive.

"Guys come here!"

He called out to the other two I had seen, I hadn't noticed them staring at us.

They immediately ran over, smiles on their faces.

"I'm Corbyn by the way."

The blonde grinned at me.

"Karson."

I replied politely.

"This is Jack, and Zach."

He pointed to each of them.

"Guys, this is Karson!"

He introduced me.

"So you're our new neighbor."

I nodded.

"She's cute."

Jack whispered to Zach loudly.

I giggled as Corbyn whacked him.

"Grab some boxes boys, we're helping this damsel in distress."

"I am no damsel sir."

I sassed Corbyn.

"Ooo she's got a mouth on her too."

Jack whispered loudly once again.

"You know I can hear you."

"I know."

He winked at me.

"Sorry, he's a flirt. And a little fucker."

Zach apologized for his friend, earning a whack on the head.

"Behave guys, jesus."

Corbyn shook his head.

I grabbed a lighter box and lead the helpful three inside.

"You can just set them down there."

I told them.

"Thanks for the help guys."

I smiled gratefully.

"Of course!"

Zach exclaimed happily.

"Well, we'll see you around."

Corbyn looked down at me.

"I suppose you will. Bye guys."

I bid them farewell, shutting the door and going back to my dreaded unpacking.

I don't know why, but for some reason I felt like I might have friends again. And my heart was happy.
