Snow swirled outside of the old cottage's window. Teddy sat on the rug by the fire, melting the snow and ice out of his now matted brown fur. Six feet thumped down the hallway as Grubby appeared in the living room doorway.
"I made some root stew to warm ya up while yer clothes dry." he said. He marched over to the drenched Illiop and thrusted the bowl into his hands before plopping down next to him. "So was it worth it?" he asked. Teddy sipped the stew without thinking and nearly gagged. Catching himself, he answered in a choked voice,
"Ah, the fob? Absolutely!" Beside him was a tiny fob wrapped in a blanket, fast asleep. "The poor little thing was buried up to his neck in snow. I'm very glad we found him. If he had been out there any longer..." he trailed off. Teddy quickly shook the thoughts from his head and gulped down some more soup. He honestly didn't like it at all, but he knew Grubby was proud of it. Plus, it would keep him warm. It was in the negatives outside, and Teddy was sitting in front of the fireplace not to far from the drafty crack in the wall in nothing but his boxers and a thin blanket.
He shivered and looked over at his friend who was contently chugging his bowl of soup. "Remember when he sat on that fob egg? As soft as a Grubby...as big as a Grubby...as WARM as a Grubby..." Teddy thought. Before he knew it, he found himself leaning up against Grubby and snuggling into his shoulder. He certainly was warm. The octopede blushed deeply and turned to his cozy friend. Well, it would be awkward if Grubby didn't return the favor in any way, so he slowly placed his hand on Teddy's back and rubbed it.
They sat there for a good long while, talking about old childhood memories and gradually snuggling closer to each other. Soon, they were laying on the floor, arms wrapped around each other, Grubby's face buried in Teddy's soft, fluffy chest. "Ya know Teddy, I've always thought of you as my friend," Grubby started. "But I knew I always felt somethin' else. Somethin' deeper than friendship." Teddy met his eyes which were brimming with tears. "Lo-...love?" Teddy murmured. Grubby nodded, tears now beginning to stream down his yellow face, now reddened to a deep orange. Teddy pulled Grubby in closer, feeling tears well up in his own eyes. What did this mean? What was going to happen? These thoughts rushed through his head, but were soon overpowered by the pure love that he felt for his companion.
