“Are you sure you wanna do this?” Nancy asked, holding my hand. I breathed out, nodding,”Yeah.”  She nodded back as we walked up to the door of her living room.

We both walked into the room. Holly, Mike, Karen, Steve, and Ted were all in their. Steve was my brother, and I didn’t want our parents to know.

Nancy exhaled heavily as she sat down on the couch. “So-um-y’know, it’s nothing.” I scratched the back of my neck, turning away from them.

“No, you know it’s important.” Nancy whispered to me. “Nancy, what is this? What’s wrong?” Karen asked, brows furrowed.

“Oh my god,” She muttered under her breath,”We’re gay! We’re gay and we’re dating!” Nancy exclaims.

The sigh was heavily audible, like the weight of her secret was physically removed. “You- you’re w-what?” Steve asked, standing. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” He looked at me.

“I-I-“ “Steve, she was scared.” “But you still-“ “Steve, Sweetie,” Karen interrupted, placing a hand on his forearm,”I think what they need right now is support. You can deal with this later, but your all your little sister needs right now is a hug.”

Steve nodded, embracing me. Karen and Mike stood, hugging Nancy as well. After about twenty minutes of hugging, I started to feel weird being here.

“I think we’re gonna take off.” Steve stated, standing. He twirled his key ring around his finger, lips pursed. “Alright,” Karen nodded. “Are you gonna be okay?” She asked me. I nodded, inhaling sharply. “I’ll see you tomorrow. You’re welcome over anytime. Alright?” I nodded.

“Are you going to tell Mom and Dad?” Steve asked as I walked down the pavement to the passenger side of his car. “Oh god no.”

Karen dismissed Mike, telling him to put Holly to bed. Karen noticed Ted hadn’t uttered a word this entire time. She looked to the chair he usually sat in, seeing he wasn’t there.

“Hold on Sweetie.” Karen told Nancy. She opened the sliding glass door that lead to the deck out back. “What the hell, Ted? Nancy needs you in there.”

“I can’t.” He shook his head. “These kids…One’s a loser, and the others gay.” Karen was taken back. “What the…Ted, what the hell?” She turned, slamming the door closed. She locked the door.

“Your father needs some time to cool off, Sweetheart.” Nancy nodded, knowing he wasn’t going to accept this.
