LAUREN'S POV

When I knew my knocking wasn't working anymore, I leaned my head against the door with a whimper. I didn't think she would act like this at all. I honestly didn't know what to do anymore, one of us was going to get hurt regardless in this situation but what she said has actually made me realize what I've been doing these past couple of weeks. I had promised that I would stay, and I broke that. I didn't know why I always let my fears get the best of me then remember that she had given me a promise ring, signifying that she really did want to be with me. I had to keep reminding myself that she did, instead of running away every time something happened that I didn't like.

I dropped down and quickly looked under the mat, hoping Y/N had a spare key lying around but when I couldn't find one, I knew I had to go back to Dinah's to get my own copy of the house key Y/N had made for me. I called the Polynesian's number, advising that she hurried and in no time I climbed into her car. On the way to her house I explained what was going on, and what I needed to do to fix it. Dinah didn't come up with some smart-ass remark like I thought she would. Instead she stayed quiet and drove as quickly but legally as she could. "Can you give me a ride back after I grab the key?" I asked once we turned down the street occupying her house. Dinah nodded her head as I thanked her, getting out and running into the house to rummage for the house key.

I had never needed it before, since Y/N and I were always together but now that I needed it, I couldn't find it. I huffed to myself and searched all over, finally grabbing it several minutes later. I ran back outside to the car where Dinah was waiting and the two of us drove back to the teacher's house. "Lauren, if you knew it was going to create problems, why did you stay at my house?" Dinah suddenly asked before we came to a stop in front of Y/N's house. I was surprised at her question but I debated it in my head. I don't know why I ran away.

"I think I wanted to believe that I was keeping the both of us safe. That by staying at your house I wouldn't be seen by the girl that forced Y/N to date her. If they were supposed to be hanging out more, I didn't want her to show up at the house and chance Y/N getting in trouble. But in all honesty, I think I was just scared." I sighed. Dinah stayed quiet, waiting for me to gather my thoughts. "I didn't want to see Y/N slowly falling for the other girl right in front of me. I was scared she would leave me for Lucy and I didn't know what I'd do after that."

"I hate to say this because you're my best friend, but Lauren that was honestly one of the stupidest things you could've done. She wanted to marry you for Christ's sake, you have a ring to prove it. Yes she may be overreacting right now but give her a break Laur, she feels like all you've been doing is abandoning her. That's not the best thing to feel in a relationship." Dinah pointed out, her head titling to the side in a knowing matter. I sighed defeatedly, nodding my head in agreement. "Now whatever you choose to do to fix this situation, I'll be right here to help if you need it but I'm not letting you give up this easily." She pointed her finger at me.

"Thanks D." I gave a light smile before climbing out of the car. I waved goodbye to Dinah and watched as she drove away, leaving me no way to escape now. I sighed again before heading up to the door and unlocking it, letting myself in. The TV was playing in the living room but Y/N was nowhere to be seen. I checked around the kitchen but found nothing. When I came back to the living room I saw an empty bottle that once contained alcohol. As I walked towards Y/N's room, I could hear her snoring away. When I opened the door, I saw the older girl laying in only her underwear, her skin looking hot and dampened with sweat. My heart clenched at the sight. I knew she wasn't only drunk, there was something else going on that caused her skin to heat up that way.

I made my way into the bathroom to start a cool bath, hoping it would help keep Y/N's body temperature down to a safe level. As it was filling up, I walked back to the room to try to wake the teacher up. "Y/N." I whispered as I placed my hand on her back. I almost flinched at the hotness of her skin, knowing it could potentially become fatal if I didn't cool her down. I tried to pull her arm up but she was too heavy for me, considering that her frame was nearly twice the height of my own. Okay not that much but still considerably taller. "Y/N come on, get up. You have to help me."
