“The name's Alexandra. Alexandra Aithne Riley,” the girl said, her voice rough but soft, demanding but gentle. Her hair was lit on fire with streaks of maroon, her eyes the color of the woods a second before the night. She was beautiful.

“It's nice to meet you, love,” a man said, emerging from the darkness. His lips formed a scowl as he took in her figure.

“Your expression disagrees with your words,” Asher replied smoothly, daring to look him the eye.

“You'll learn how to be a liar soon enough,” he said, his eyes dancing with amusement as a look of confusion passed across her face.

“Then spare me the details and tell me one last truth. What is your name?” The second the question escaped her lips, his jaw clenched and his eyebrows burrowed together in thought.

“Donovan Brookes ,” he said quietly, a moment of silence filling the space between them before he roughly pulled her elbow and growled, “Now come along.”
