"3,2,1...... "

"Booooooooooooo". What the fudge? Jason muttered sleepily until he saw what woke him up.

"Why you two.."

They didn't wait for him to finish his statement. They both exchanged glances and shrieked simultaneously

"RUN".

I woke up immediately gasping a little like I'd just ran a marathon! I was a little disoriented till I realised where I was. Just another dream, I mused.

It's probably the one thousandth dream I've had since it happened.

Thought they said time healed all. It's been almost five years since Addie died and it still feels like yesterday. I keep waiting for her to jump in my room and say wake up sleepy head.

Yes! I said jump.

Addie was always bubbling with energy. She always walked with a skip in her steps. How on earth am I supposed to forget her and move on when my subconscious wouldn't let me!

I still dream about her every damn day!

Okay let's rewind a little. I'm Xarie Thompson, your average American teen. I'm about six feet tall. Yes I said six. I've been called a giant on numerous occasions so it's no biggie. I have pitch black hair, like blackish black, with scanty red highlights. People keep asking if I dyed my hair... I'd actually have preferred a brown hair you know something less eye catching. I hate attracting attention. Oh and I have emerald eyes, a sort of sparkly green eyes, but that's hardly ever noticeable underneath my heavy glasses.

I have always been scared of contacts, so I stuck to glasses.

I'm kind of a loner... Except when I'm with Addie. I mean what's the use of having friends? Gossip? Unnecessary noise? Shopping? (I dread shopping, walking for hours in a mall aimlessly, looking for nothing in particular! No thanks).

I've always preferred my own company, I guess being an only child coupled with parents who travel a whole lot did that to me. Just leave me with my iPhone and my headset and I'd be happy, throw in a novel and I'd be perfectly comfortable.

That was before I met Addie. She was my polar contrast. She had the triple B thing going for her, blonde, bold and beautiful. I was twelve when I met her. They just moved in a couple of blocks from ours so mom made us, me and her, amidst my grumbling, go greet them with our signature chocolate cake offering.

Immediately Addie saw me her eyes lit up and one thing led to another before we knew it and we became best friends. She had an older brother, Jason. When we were much younger we'd spend time thinking of ways to terrorize Jason. Those were the fun days.

"Xarie, my mom shouted". "I'm awake mom, I shouted back".

"Well then get ready sweetie it's almost eight! You do remember today's date right?"

Hmmph! How could I forget?

Today is probably my least favorite day every year, (except when I have to go shopping with mum). Exactly five years ago, Addie died of leukemia so my mom and we made it a tradition to visit her grave every year, along with Addie's parents and Jason.

"Can't forget mom" I retorted.

Well, here we go.
