Have you ever been in a quiet room and just listened to the surrounding silence? The static ringing in your ears. Until, knock knock knock, something tears the silence away.
The door to my bedroom creaked as the handle was pulled and became ajar. The sliver of light peering in to the room along my face, waking me up slightly. A head popped in to the room, I propped myself up to see who it was. "time to wake up Connie, mum says breakfast is ready" and just like that, again the room filled with static silence.
I groggily got up out of bed, I never really had to decide what to wear for school because our school had a school uniform. However, it was nothing like those fancy prep schools, just a shirt, black skirt, grey school jumper and a half torn up blazer with the school logo on its breast pocket. I just shrugged and strode over to the mirror beside my bed and took a good look at myself. My thick black hair swirling down my shoulders and messy curly fringe sprawled across my forehead and my large round glasses I tucked behind my ears. Just how I like it.
I didn't want to take too long and make mum angry, so I grabbed my bag and headed down stairs. My brother already sitting at the table.
My brother was a typical computer geek, but he wasn't particularly lanky, he even played sports on the weekend. He was the kind of guy who has his life together. He knows what he wants to do and the right paths to obtain his goal. Whereas, me who has no idea what I'm doing with my life and is just going with the flow. We weren't polar opposites but we just didn't have that much in common, we were rivals in the past but now we're alright with each other. We just get on with our lives. The clank of a bowl took me out of my trance and I grabbed the nearby spoon and dug in. My mum popped her head into the room "Connie, Tristen and I will be staying here today finishing off packing, spend this day with your friends have fun sweetie." She tied her black hair up in a pony tail. Mum always looks so stunning, wearing simply a white t-shit and a pair of jeans. Her brown skin glowing, she looks quite young for her age, we actually get mistaken for sisters quite a lot. Anyways, I grabbed my bag and headed out.
The walk to the bus stop wasn't long so it took me only a few minutes to reach the bus stop before getting my bus pass out and taking my seat. There was no school bus because the school is quite small along with the village surrounding it. Me, my mum and my brother lives in Cornwall which is along the south-eastern coast of England. Everyone knew everyone in this village, I lived here since I was born. My brother and my mother are quite alike in the fact that they were sick of how far away everything was and how quiet the neighbourhood was (But I loved it). That's the reason why my mum decided to move to suburban London. We were leaving in later today, so this will be my last day of school. I really hated the idea of moving away from my childhood friends but along with the constant complaining my mum had actually found a good job out in London. So, I just have to bear with, until the next school break.
For the rest of the journey, I grabbed my earphones out my blazer pocket and plugged it into my small phone and put on some music. I listened to mainly indie bands because their music was just so unique and rustic. I hummed along to one of the songs till I got to school.
I glanced out the window and before I knew it, I was almost there. I pressed the stop button and got off the bus. I swung my bag further on my shoulders feeling nervous about saying goodbye to my friends. I felt guilt hang at the pit of my stomach. I knew I had nothing to feel guilty about, my friends were cool about me leaving, saying lovely things like 'we will never forget you', 'you better call us'. Yet there it was the crushing guilt knowing the fact that I was leaving my friend's behind. As I neared the school gates I brushed off that feeling and continued with my day.
All my friends were in different form rooms so I had to wait until break to see them. I pushed open the door to room 45, my form room, and took my seat. One seat away from the back and closest to the window opposite the door. I took out my reading book, to kill a mockingbird, I was quite early so I just read until the class filled up with students I knew from a young age. Some I never even talked to but I knew I would just miss their presence. I never really had any problems with any of the students here, I guess we just thought there was no point because we're going to be in and out of here in a couple of years. So, we should just chin up and bear it.
