Elide had figured it out.

Lorcan was insane.

After she had spilled her life story at Dante's feet, he smiled at her and told her she was strong, that she would survive this war after all she had been through.

And then he threw them inside a portal.

Elide didn't know how he did it. One minute they were sitting in his room, filled with thousands upon thousands of books, and then the next minute, they were tumbling through the air, thirty feet above the ground. Dante apparently hadn't calculated height when he created the portal. Elide was still confused as to how a human like him had access to that kind of power. He had drawn symbols on the floor using red paint. She only figured out later, that is wasn't red paint. After he finished drawing the blood symbols, he had started chanting in a weird ancient language, one that Elide couldn't understand at all. Lorcan has seemed to recognize some of the words though.

The wind ripped through her hair as they fell, and her scream was silenced by the winds. Despite probably falling to her death, Elide couldn't help but notice how beautiful Wendlyn was. The sun had set long ago and the stars and moon shone, lighting up the snow covered countryside. Elide hadn't seen snow like this in a long time. Since she left Terresan. It was the kind of snow that was pure powder, light and fluffy. And she was going to crash right into it.

Why was her life so difficult sometimes?

Lorcan was falling next to her but he wasn't freaking out like she was. Gavriel was calm—as usual—quickly shifting into his mountain lion. Cats. Right. They have nine lives. It must have been nice. Elide on the other hand, only had one life, and it was going to come to an end as soon as she slammed into the beautiful, snow covered land.

The trees grew closer and closer and Elide shut her eyes, sending out a last prayer to whatever gods were listening.

Suddenly, all three of them stopped. The hovered a few feet above the ground, close enough to see Rowan.

"What the hell? Lorcan?" He snapped his eyes him. "Don't tell me you went to Dante again?"

Lorcan grimaced and Rowan sighed. "Let them down." He told Dorian.

Elide just noticed the King by his side. He was the reason they hadn't died yet, holding them in place with his power. Dorian nodded and closed his eyes, letting them drift slowly to the ground.

Elide steadied herself on her feet, gaining her balance and slowing her racing heart. "Thanks," She told Dorian. She and the King had only met a few times and they weren't that close despite the fact that he and Manon...well she didn't know what they were.

He smiled and nodded his head, "No problem."

Gavriel walked over to Rowan, the two males engaging in a hushed conversation. From the way Rowan looked and the exaggerate use of his hands while he was talking, it wasn't a good topic.

Arms wrapped around Elide and she panicked at first, until she noticed the white hair and iron nails. "Hey," she turned around and smiled at Manon. "Long time no see."

Manon chuckled. "I heard you were falling from the sky."

"Yep," Elide confirmed. "Courtesy of Lorcan." Manon raised an eyebrow. "It's a long story." Elide muttered.
