The Djinni sat up suddenly. Her heart pounded and a sheen if cold sweat covered her body. Her room was dark. All was quiet. She listened intently for any sign of what had woken her. It had to be something, she'd tried waking up from nightmares on her own and was never able to manage it. Hearing nothing, she got up. Her feet touched the cool floor as she slid out of bed. She could feel it, something was wrong.
Djinni grabbed the silk robe she'd cast over her vanity the night before. Sheheld her breath as she opened the door silently, peeking out. The halls where empty, save the shadows and whisper of drapes caught in the light breeze from the open windows. She crept into the hall. Silence...
"Illuminare." She whispered. An orb of blue light appeared above her upturned palm. She continued down the long hall toward Najwa's room. Portraits lined the walls, each face had tight expressions and the same red eyes. She froze at the sound of shuffling. Her hand formed a fist, snuffing out the light. She strained her ears against the quiet, searching for any sound she could find.
"Quiet, we're saving you." Eight hissed. The dark haired girl writhed and kicked. Nine looked around anxiously. The Djinni would kill them if they we're caught.
"We should leave her, she obviously wants to stay!" He whispered, grabbing the older man's shoulder nervously.
Eight growled at him. "She doesn't know what she wants!" Najwa's muffled scream made the man jump and drop the child. She tripped on her night gown, trying to run. Eight grabbed her roughly by the hair, covering her mouth again.
Nine grabbed the girls wrist and jerked her to himself. She gave a startled cry, tears streaming down her face. Eight squared his shoulders. "What are you doing Nine?" His hand inched to his belt where a gun hid.
Haymich moved the girl behind him. "I said we shouldn't do this, Eight." His voice was cold, he could see the faint light from the corner of his eye and he new how to play the game.
"Now, now." Came a soft voice. Both men looked up in surprise. The Djinni held a faint blue light. "There's no need for that." She said calmly. Najwa let out a relieved sob, clinging to Haymich. Djinni looked at the old man. "Mich, take Najwa to my chamber, would you?" She asked as if they were old friends. He scooped the child up and turned down the hall.
"Mich?! What is going on?" Eight demanded. Djinni laughed lightly, still maintaining eye contact and moving closer.
"Oh, he's an old client of mine, Alvin." She smiled. The mans eyes widened as he stumbled back.
"No." He whispered. "He told you. It was all him." Eight gasped in growing panic. She nodded idly, her eyes growing hungry.
"I know, you're really loosing your touch, arent you?" She laughed then paused, her head tilting slightly to the side. "Then again, considering how we met, you never really had it to begin with." He glared at her, shame coloring his face, even now. "Now, I will tell you something Alvin." She whispered as he backed into the wall.
The Djinni leaned into his face. Her breath whispered across his skin. "You tried stealing what belongs to me, so I'm going to do something special for you." She whispered.
Edna entered the hall, aroused by the noise. She gravely stepped up behind her, putting a beautiful glass and silver perfume bottle in her hand. "I'm going to take your Soul." He shoved away from her, stumbling back.
"How? What will happen? Where will my soul go?" He demanded, one couldn't just steal a soul!
"Why, Hell of course." She smiled sweetly. Alvin looked from the bottle, to the Djinni, to Edna.
"You're The Devil! Satan Himself!" He shouted. She chortled.
The woman held the bottle between her fingers, admiring the craftsmanship. "That is the problem with society." She murmured, almost dreamily. "Who ever said Satan was a man?" She questioned, her gaze snapping to meet his. His eyes were frozen wide. Shaking his head, his voice quivered.
"God will punish you Evil One." He warned. She laughed again softly.
"Am I the Evil one? Tell me, if you could stop me would you?" Smirked the Djinni. "Of course you would. In fact you're attempting right now. If your God was so good and powerful, why hasn't He stopped me?" She asked. He stared in silence. She nodded. "Who created the powers I posses? A God, if there is one. If your God is all knowing, why didn't He stop my birth? Seeing 'evil' and ignoring it doesn't seem very 'good' to me." At that the Angel sprung forth.
"You weren't born. You are the embodiment of Darkness!" He cried. She shook her head, raising a hand. He flew against the wall with the twitch of her finger.
She strolled up to him gracefully. "Oh, I was indeed human once." She whispered, her voice feirce and angry now. His eyes widened as she lifted the bottle.
"No! The Lord is my Savior, I shall not w-" She raised a finger to his lips.
" Silentium." She purred. His mouth closed against his will. His head shook frantically as she brought the bottle level with his mouth. "Servus meus es tu nunc." She breathed. As the words left her lips, silver mist poured from his mouth.
His eyes rolled back in his head and his body convulsed. "You really shouldn't have tried to take my girl Alvin. Taking my belonings just makes me angry." She whispered. The silver twisted like smoke, bringing the sent of rain as it was sucked into the bottle. Blood ran from his eyes like tears. Dark and thick, rolling down his face, life literally draining from him. His body collapsed against the wall stiffly. His eyes dull and glazed over, empty.
The Djinni stepped away from her victim, plugging the bottle. She smiled. The silver smoke twisted and washed over the bottles inside, with beautiful mystery. The mans body sagged against the wall, his eyes blank. She turned to him again.
"Stand." She ordered. The shell of a man stood, eyes dull and lifeless. "Go and find all other Angels. Bring them to me." She commanded. The Shell turned to shuffled from the room. Edna watched in disgust.
"If you had listened to me in the first place we would have never had this happen." Edna said in a cool, calm voice. Djinni looked at her.
"I know. I'll tolerate them no longer." She responded just as calmly. A strangled gasp made them both turn to the door way. The Djinni let out a frustrated sigh.
Najwa stared at the pair in horror. She stumbled back. She had to get away. Murderes. She turned and ran as fast as she could toward the door.
The hall turned down another and she rounded a corner. Suddenly, she slammed into a wall, falling on her backside. She looked up in confusion to see the Angel she'd just escaped. He scooped her up. "Let me go!" She shrieked. Her voice carried throughout the house, waking every remaining resident.
Edna rushed out into the hall. She stopped dead, seeing Haymich. The Djinni followed her out, passing her. "Thank you, Nine." She waved Jasper to get the child.
Edna followed the butler to calm Najwa, leaving the two alone. Haymich looked expectantly at the woman before him. She studied his face a moment before abruptly turning away from him and striding toward the door. "Tea?" She asked without slowing. He laughed under his breath, his chest light and almost giddy and jogged after her out the door.
