The shuffling sound from outside grew louder. They were almost here. I heard a whimper from behind me and turned to look, it was Mika. She was starting to cry. I watched as one tear ran down her face. Then another. Then another. I hugged her to my chest. She was shaking. We both knew what was going to happen. It was too late. I used my shadows to push a dresser in front of the door. The dresser and door started to shake as they slammed into it. She wrapped her arms around me. I started to sing softly. "You are my sunshine..." I started to dance with her. "My only sunshine... you make me happy. When skies are gray, you'll never know dear how much I love you, please don't take..." The door smashed open and they rushed in. I stepped in front of her trying to protect her, but it didn't matter. It was too late.
