The beginning of the end

Chapter 5

The atmosphere turned overwhelmingly tense, as no one spoke a word.Caleb was anxiously searching for a way out of this uncomfortable situation.Scratching his head repeatedly whilst random thoughts rushed through his head.Finally,Mason broke the unfortunate silence-

"Anyone wants any waffles?I brought some that you don't have to microwave".
"Seriously Mason this isn't the right time" said Caleb frustratedly.
" Hey man don't get cranky,I'm saving you right here...come on give me some credit" Said Mason proudly.

Throughout this whole conversation Maddie didn't even move her vision from her trembling legs.As Caleb looked at her,he could feel his heart break,as he realised that he practically held her heart in his arms but let it go too quickly.

"Look...Hayley can you just give us a moment" asked Caleb exhaustingly.

Hayley looked at Caleb with an emotion-free face.But her eyes looked offended,nevertheless she just walked out  the front door, without trying to voice her opinion and disagree with Caleb.

"First of all I didn't invite her so I don't why you are-" Caleb said.
"But did you tell her that we're staying here?" Maddie exclaimed frustratedly.
"Well...yes but that's not the point-" said Caleb.
"Well there you go then" Maddie said whilst rolling her eyes.

Before the atmosphere could get anymore uncomfortable,Layla took Maddie away from Caleb to let her settle and cool down.She knew that as a good friend she had a lot of problems going on in her mind.

Whilst Layla was comforting Maddie,Kyle took Caleb to side,who seemed very touched by Maddie's reaction.

"Look...I know you probably won't get me but the thing is I'm unsure with the whole Haley thing" Caleb spoke.
"Dude...so you don't like Hayley but your still with her,ironic" Kyle declared kind of laughing to himself.
"It's not that I don't like her...it's just I told her that we both need to think our relationship through" said Caleb.
"What did she say then?" Asked Kyle.
"Well at first she said there is nothing to think about as she says we are a 'perfect' couple.I think she got a bit offended that I said that we should put our relationship on a hold".
"Look I get you might not be willing to take advice from me as I suck at long term relationships but as a man who dated a lot of girls,you have to decide...in your heart which one you value the most." Said Kyle,as he stood up to pat Caleb on the back to leave the room to give him a bit of time to gather his own thoughts.

As Kyle walked out the room,swinging his head to look at the small hallway,the close proximity with another person arose.Layla frantically let out a typical,hysterical scream.They quickly apologised and pushed away from each other.They shared a few giggles amongst themselves but other than that they haven't spoken any words.But after a while the atmosphere started to feel welcoming and less tense,with all this drama happening.So they started to build their conversation but unknowingly their friendship too.

"I know it's getting dark but do you fancy a walk?" Asked Kyle.
"Sure,won't mind to get my mind of some things." Layla replied.

As they started their evening stroll they came across beautiful,overwhelming nature which just stood transfixed at the people around them.The stroll was a very pleasant experience as the lake reflected the arising moonlight beams.The wind let out a cold shiver down along their backs making them feel uncomfortable but joyful.

They started talking about how sports day was their best time of the year as there were no lessons during that day.They started having a playful argument where Kyle certainly said that he was better and faster and running than Layla.But Layla wasn't too impressed that he started insulting her,so she tried to remind him of all the gold trophies she has won for running.But of course Kyle was hard to please and didn't believe in her words until he got visible proof.

"You really want visible proof huh?Fine then I'll race race you to that grey thing" Said Layla.
"Easy peasy lemon squezy" Said Kyle knowing that he would win.

Layla tucked a piece of her hair back behind her ear,to maximise her chance of winning to as high as possible.Whilst Kyle didn't even bother to do any stretches as he was very confident that he would win.All he actually checked is the smell of his cologne.

"Ready...steady...GO!!" Both of them exclaimed.

Their trainers bounced of the muddy path.They dodged all sorts of obstacles on the way.Layla swarmed past the windy weather and Kyle jumped(of what seemed to him as hurdles)over twigs and logs which were left on the track.As they were equally close to the grey structure,Layla clumsily slipped.She panicked and whilst sliding down the mud she grabbed Kyles leg and dragged him with her.They only fell only 2 metres down whacking their bodies on the floor.As Looked around they realised that they were inside the grey structure and it was bigger than they have imagined.

"Wow...I can't believe this is an actual underground tunnel" exclaimed Layla.
"Who would've thought that a stroll in the woods would lead us 2 metres underground" said Kyle.
"I know right.Do you think we should explore?" Asked Layla.
"Well first of all the moon is nearly fully out and the rest our probably worried about us" Kyle examined.
"Yeah I think your right,let's head back to the cabin" Said Layla.

Stroll in down the abandoned tunnel,they come across a lot of rubbish across the floor.Both can't stop to think about the wonders and secret pathways of this tunnel and where it leads to.

As they are walking towards the entry of the hole they fell from,in the distance they see a person.A silhouette?A figure?The person keeps on mumbling to itself clearly not wanting anyone to hear it's thoughts.And little knowing of the presence of the two people watching in the distance:Layla and Kyle.

Soon enough they realise who the person is by squinting their eyes.

" Hey! What are you doing here shouldn't you be-" Said Kyle.
"Seriously,now your going to stalk me" exclaimed the figure.
"No we ended up in this place because-nevermind long story,anyway Hayley we're a little baffled that you're here,so answer us first why are you here?" Layla asked.
"I told you I'm here to visit my boyfriend Caleb" Hayley said.
"Not about that,about what are you doing HERE!In this tunnel for God's sake!" Layla quickly losing her temper.
"Look I don't need to answer your questions but I'm leaving anyway so-" Said Hayley confidently.
"Wait...I think I know.You're not here for Caleb,to visit your boyfriend.You're here for something else..." Layla concluded proudly.
"Aww you're not that naive as I thought you were" Hayley said with a slight smirk on her face.
"Alright Hayley cut the nonsense and say why you're here" Kyle demanded impatiently.
"Well...I've got something about Melody".

Sorry everyone for a very long wait on this chapter.I had school to catch up on but I'm going to try to make the next chapter pretty soon ;)
