CHAPTER TEN → TEENS ON THE RUN
It's been a week since the snowball. It's been a week since they've kissed. A week since her dream boy finally liked her back. A week since her father had instructed her that she has one chance left, before he completely bans her from seeing Mike.
There are new rules now. Ever since her father learnt of her new fondness for Mike, it has taken a turn for the worst. She is not to hang out with him after school hours (unless of course it's at the library for 'studying'), nor be too 'touchy' with him.
As if.
Mike walks slightly ahead of Jane, but Jane's hand is tightly held onto his, as he drags her through the crowded hallways, weaving past footballers who toss empty coke cans to each other, couples who suck face leaned against the lockers, and groups of girls snickering.
Jane is quickly stumbled past by Lucas, Dustin and Will. All three boys barge past Jane, cutting her off from holding Mike's warm hand. The boys begin babbling to Mike about the AV club getting a new member, but Jane simply tags along behind.
Jane spots a certain red headed girl who waves with a smile, and she shyly waves back, before her brief vision of the girl is swept away by a crowd of girls walking in front of her view.
She quickly tries to catch up to the boys, but soon realises Mike is no longer with them. Two hands grab at her arm, and yank her into a strange room, slamming the door shut behind them.
"What are you doing." Jane bluntly asks, folding her arms across her chest. Mike's finger briefly touches her lips, hushing the girl.
"We have to hide." He confirms, flicking the lights on. What the hell is he up to now?
Jane soon recognises this as the 'AV room' where she notices he often hangs out in. At least she now has the privilege to say she has officially made it to second base (him sharing his nerdy love for science and technology).
She scuttles behind him, as he flickers on a small lamp on the table in the middle of the room. "Why?" She asks, leaning her hands on the edge of the table.
"The boys! they wont give us any privacy!" Mike spits, balling his fists.
"It's okay, it seemed pretty important." She explains softly, tugging on the sleeve of his adorable sweater, and turning his tense attention to her gentle aura.
"It was, but your important too." He lopsidedly smiles, fixing the collar of her grey sweater, and adjusting the straps of her overalls.
Jane's face turns rosy. "Mike we aren't even dating."
His expression softens, while he tips her chin up with his finger to meet his glittering eyes. "It doesn't mean I don't get to care about you."
The curly haired girl simply smiles through pursed lips, holding back the smirk that erupts. "Your too cute for your own good wheeler"
