Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Calendar also known as the Hijri Calendar. It is the month in which Muslims across the world fast from dawn to dusk. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship. It is the time to strengthen our practice of the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and it is a time to learn self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice and patience. The blessed month of Ramadan contains the night of power and of destiny, Laylatul Qadr.

The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

[Quran 2:185]
