My dreamless sleep was peaceful, serene almost, until it was rudely interrupted by what can only be described as television static. This type of awakening was all to familiar to me by now, I could never oversleep at this point, quite saddening. I simply sighed internally, and opened my eyes to emerge from both my sleep, and the static.
I was staring up at my blank ceiling, the sound of a fan blowing cool air echoing through the room. My gaze shifted to the curtains next to my bed, there wasn't even a small bit of light outside. I pondered, just how early was I woken up? The plan might have required the cover of night, but surely I'd gotten at least a small bit of sleep. Well, I hoped that, but my alarm clock told a different tale.
"1:00 AM... I got two hours of sleep, fantastic." I suppose it couldn't be helped, I couldn't get to sleep for hours anyway. What we... what I planned to do, how COULD I sleep for more than an hour or two? I'd be more concerned if I had peaceful sleep than if I'd had horrible sleep.
No use delaying the inevitable, even if I tried to go back to sleep and ignore our plan, he'd just get my attention again. Static in your head is wonderful for getting someone to listen, like an itch you can't scratch, it can't really be ignored. I sat up, and got out of bed, getting ready wouldn't take long, there's a schedule to keep, and it's been proofread many times. After I'd gotten dressed, and thrown on my dark cloak, I began to hear metallic whirring, and heavy footsteps. There's his calling card, guess it's time to face the music, and really get into the plan.
I turned to face the open doorway of my bedroom, just in time to see an eight foot tall android walk through it, it's eyes illuminating the room. It, or should I say he, was different than every other machine I'd designed, completely on purpose. What he was, what we'd been doing, he needed to not be identifiable as one of mine, so I created a monstrous figure.
His eyes weren't a single pupil in a visor, one was as human as I could design, and the other had three pupils that functioned like a microscope. His body was a metal version of the human skeletal structure, augmented with all sorts of advanced pieces, and horrifying extra appendages. A mask covered his 'face', which allowed his eyes to be all that was visible, other than the 'mouth' that he used to speak. Truly, he was a disturbing mockery of the human form, which was what made him so effective. Gears whirred as his head turned to face me, and his microscope eye spun two clicks.
"YoU'Re Up lAtE." He spoke in a mangled voice synthesizer. "We'RE gOinG tO MiSs OUr TiMeFRaMe, YoU kNOw."
I simply rolled my eyes. "You're the one that woke me up, remember? Not my fault that you didn't wake me up on time."
"HeHEh." He chuckled, sounding like he was gargling nails. "YoU MiGhT HaVe A PoInT ThERe... ReGArdLeSs, We NEeD tO sTArT mOvINg... GrAB tHe DEvIcE, i'LL bE dOWnStAIrS."
With that, he turned around, and hobbled out of the room, his steps echoing down the stairs. It was moments like this that absolutely frightened me of my own handiwork. He looks broken and disheveled, but... he could tear the door off of a bank vault with one finger. It's that appearance and mass amount of strength that we'll be using as a vital part of the plan.
Following our schedule, which we were now slightly behind on, I exited my room, and went to the one down the hall. This room had been heavily armored and locked, to prevent anyone from getting inside but us. I swung open the key pad, entered my 26 digit password, and opened the heavy door. Inside the metallic room was one thing, just one, that we can been constructing and hiding from the world.
A weapon, more specifically a gun, resting atop a pillar in the center of the room. It was connected to a bunch of cables that ran throughout the room, into and around many pieces of technology. According to our numbers and tests, this would be fully charged by now, and ready for the one, singular shot it needs to perform.
Time to put up or shut up, no more stalling... I walked to the pillar, and reach my hand out to take the weapon... The Destron Device...
