She closed the door and pressed her back to it, her hand over her mouth.

She had just heard the words she had waited almost a whole decade to hear.

She reached behind her and turned the lock on her door.

"Sayori, I love you."

The phrase was like bells in her head. But it didn't chime gleefully through her thoughts, it roared painfully in her mind, it's ringing subduing everything else.

He loved her back.

She had not pined after him in vain.

So why, why oh why, was she sitting on the floor, her body wracked with the most violent sobs she had ever known?

Sayori hugged her knees to her chest, realizing that she already knew the answer to that question.

It was the rain clouds. The rain clouds that had once hovered menacingly over her head. Gradually, they had moved downwards, circling around her head. But know...

They were inside her head.

They gnawed at her thoughts, corrupting his words, the words which she had once been positive would lift the clouds away, until it was no longer a message of solice and affection. It was one of deceit and pity.

I love you.

But you don't deserve it.

You snivling, whining excuse for human life.

Who could ever love you?

Over someone as infinitely perfect and flawless as Yuri?

Or Natsuki?

Or Monika?

That's right.

No one.

Not even me.

Your best friend.

By the way, did it ever occur to you that I never wanted your friendship at all?

She choked on a sob. A wail escaped her throat instead.

Get out of my head...

She couldn't count the times she had tried to force out the voices with those words.

Get out of my head...

Today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. She had dreamed about it, plotting out every step, every word, every move.

How stupid she was to think that everything would go according to her silly little school girl daydreams.

You stupid, stupid, little girl.
