Side Note: This ficlet takes place in an AU of mine where Monika isn't permanently deleted from the game, but instead ensures only she remembers the events that took place in the original story. Most of my Monika/MC stories will be like this, since it's just how I feel DDLC might've ended better. We all on the same page? Good. Enjoy!
"Anon! You're late!"
"Sorry," he said in response to a pouty-lipped Sayori, closing the door behind him and moving over to the table where the rest of the club members were gathered. "My last period teacher had a cow and kept the class behind."
"We're glad to have you back anyways," Monika said with the brightest and sweetest smile she could give. He returned it and took his seat next to Sayori.
"So," Monika continued to the group at large. "everyone brought their poems?"
The other four members nodded and murmured soft affirmatives.
"Awesome!" She said as they all began to dig through their book bags for their poems. There was a great rustling of pages as they exchanged papers. Monika handed her poem to Yuri and received Natsuki's in return. She let her eyes scan the page for a moment, but was very quickly bored by the playful and careless wording and the childish message Natsuki's poems always gave. She soon found her gaze drifting off the page, up to him. She watched him read the poem in his hands-Sayori's poem- watched as his lips curled into a smile.
Oh, how she loved that smile.

I'll be your sky.
You can hide underneath me
and come out at night. She gazed him a little longer, her head bursting with thoughts of him. His growing passion for the Literature Club. The way his eyes lit up when he smiled. How his laughter was like the sweet sound of bells in her ears.
She loved it all so dearly.
When I turn jet black,
And you show off your light
I live to let you shine. He set the poem down and grinned more brighter at it still. Monika felt her heart pound.
I live to let you shine.
"It's garbage, isn't it?" Sayori looked down sadly, her cheeks flushing a light shade of pink.
"No!" He appeared offended by such a suggestion. "Sayori, it's really good!"
Sayori glanced up at him and tilted her head a bit to the side. "Is it really?"
"Of course!" He reached forward an lifted her chin so that her eyes were forced to meet his. "Can't you just trust me when I say what you do is good? Because it really is, Sayori. It's perfect."
He gave her that smile of his, only this time, it was something more, something brighter and more genuine. It was a look for her, for Sayori, and Sayori alone.
But you can skyrocket away from me.
And never come back if you
find another galaxy.Monika felt the smile that had been blooming across her face falter and dissolve. A hard lump started to swell in her throat as she saw the way he looked at her. Of course he would love her: she had been something of his best friend his whole life. She was pretty and sweet and passionate...
