I met Paul Blofis, my new dad. He was a brown-haired man with brown eyes and a hint of stubble. He is a nice man, pretty wise too.
I spent the first few weeks trying to adjust to the huge city, but I would have liked it if we lived in the part of Long Island that is less crowded.
It's a hard thing, going from New Mexico to the Big Apple. Whenever I "went out" I really went to the park to listen to music and watch the people.
I often saw odd things. Ladies with yarn, a man running around saying that the Martians are coming, and a man I swear was part horse. The oddest thing I ever saw was a ten-foot-tall, pure black dog, with two people riding it. I noticed the time, I was to meet my brother and his girlfriend.
I reached the apartment before my brother and his girlfriend. I went into the bedroom and changed into a teal t-shirt that said "Let the music take hold," a necklace with a headphones charm, matching teal high-tops, baggy jeans, golden arrow earrings, and as always my charm bracelet.
My charm bracelet is the only thing I have from my real family. There are thirteen charms, a skull, a lightning bolt, a peacock feather, a trident, a winged shoe, a dove with a heart, a music note, a pair of spears, a hammer, an owl, grapes, a bouquet of flowers, and a moon with a bow and arrow.
I stood in the mirror and looked at myself. As my friends always say, my eyes look like emeralds, my hair is brown with even lighter brown at the edge, and my skin is like the classic skin-colored crayon in the Crayola box. I put my hair in a messy bun as I walked out the bedroom door.
At the door of the apartment stood two new people, and my jaw dropped. The first is a boy with black messy hair with sea green eyes. He wore an orange shirt that said Camp Half-Blood, jeans, and a necklace with about five round beads.
The other is a girl that kind of looked like princess with curly blond hair and sharp, stormy eyes. She wore the same shirt, jeans, a necklace with more beads, and silver owl earrings.
That wasn't what shocked me, what shocked me was they were the people I saw earlier. They were the ones riding the dog.
