There's a Japanese legend of how two people were cut from the same cloth. When they were put on this earth by the gods this cloth was cut into two but a little bit of thread tied the two people together. They were set to wander the world seeking each other, aimlessly. The thread knotting, tangling but never severed. Until they inevitably met because they are destined to be together, regardless of circumstance.
Some refer to this as a soulmate.
