red is for the anger in your veins.
it runs through your body
and out your fingertips
into my skin,
leaving a painful mark.

orange is for the sunsets.
we watched them,
every thursday, after class.
i used to sit inbetween your lanky legs
and rest my head on your firm chest
as the sky burned.

yellow is for the lemons.
our sour relationship
that would never last.
if life gives you lemons,
throw them in the bin.
you don't need them.

green is for the trees.
remember when we ran to the forest
and we kissed for the first time.
i remember the taste of your
chapped lips and cheap scent.
the trees covered us that day
and hid the sun.

blue is for my tears.
you left me for her
and i cried and cried.
ugly tears cascaded down my face
like my own little waterfall
as you kissed her
and gave her love you never gave to me.

indigo is for the twilight.
after the sunset,
came a beautiful inbetween.
the sky stopped burning
and transformed into a soft purple
like the colour of your favourite shirt.

violet is for the flowers.
on that fateful day,
the day you left me,
there were violet flowers
blooming elegantly
as i sobbed and you walked.
away from me.

this is my painbow.
this is your painbow.
