Look Behind You

Sonny Boy

"Dad, what's going on?" I look at the knife in his hand, blood dripping from the end of the blade. I stare in horror as he turns around staring at me, with a monstrous look on his face. "Sonny boy, what did you see?" My mom, lying on the floor in a puddle of blood. I look to my right, my sister with fear in her eyes couldn't move a muscle. My father starts to walk towards us. "Son, I asked you a question. What did you see!" he shouts at me as he raises his knife.

I need to protect my sister. We were standing in the doorway connecting the living room and the kitchen. My dad was striding towards us, obviously drunk. "Dad, what did you do?" I said as I started slowly walking backwards. I need to grab a weapon. I grabbed my sister's hand to comfort her as best I could, she was frozen in fear. "Son, don't worry I won't do anything to my beautiful children." He's obviously noticed I've been slowly backing up. "But you killed mom!" and with that I ran.

With my sister following, I dash to the kitchen to grab a weapon. I noticed a pot, on the stove, it was still boiling. It seems dad got home while mom was cooking dinner. Dad started to charge, knife raised ready to be used. I grabbed the pot as fast as I could and splashed boiling water towards his face. The water grazes his cheek, but just enough to stop him in his tracks.

My sister still in hand, I sprint towards the back door, but my father wasn't going to have that. He leaps with the knife in hand, and it pierces the back of my leg, pain shoots up and I fall to my knees. "Kaylee! Run! Get as far away as you can!" Tears in her eyes, knowing the danger, she escapes through the back door. My father stands up. Grabs the knife and pulls it out of my leg. I close my eyes. Trying to bear the pain. Ready for the inevitable. My eyes don't open, I lie on the floor. My last thoughts seeping out. Please Kaylee, be safe. Darkness envelops me. I sleep for eternity.
