The birds chirped as the waves lapped against the sandy shore bringing me awake. The salt in the air found its way to my nose washing away the dreams spinning in my mind. Pushing aside the blanket, my bare feet found the cold floor sending shivers up my spine. The sweet little beach house was still foreign to me but hopefully would soon become the place I could call home.
After making a quick cup of tea I found myself on the porch staring at the ocean. I allowed my thoughts to wonder, which they tended to do quite often. They drifted to the new life I needed to live and how I was going to wash everything away. While sitting in a new cedar rocking chair, the sun rose above the horizon warming me from head to toe. I stretched my bare legs and hugged myself taking in the sent of my freshly washed Cardinal hoodie reminding me of home, one of the only items I could bare keeping.
An older man and woman walked along the beach, hands linked, giggling like children at their black lab running in the water. The joy on their faces somehow spread to me, making me smile along with them. I can feel the love they share for another, and the happiness within their bodies. In my heart I desperately cling to the idea of loving someone so much but that reality has disappeared from my life. Once they had passed my house I decided to explore the new town a bit, maybe even find a bar.
Back inside the house I threw on a pair of ripped jeans, my white converse and decided to leave my cardinals hoodie right where it was on my body. It was late november but even on the beach it was cold enough for a second layer. My feet clomped down the wooden stairs leading to my beautiful truck. Well she is a big beautiful monster in all honesty. With that thought, I smiled to myself finding a sense of pride in all her massive glory. I turned the key begging her to start, she hesitated and growled at me but accepted my request.

After some time of driving seeing lots of fisherman, a mechanic shop, the firehouse I will be working at, a small hospital, a little market I decided I must try out and tons of small shopping boutiques I pulled into the local bar. The sign above the door read The Salty's Platoon, but the P was hanging crooked and the two o's were almost completely faded. I waited in the truck for a moment trying to think about everything that was going on but the thought of sweet whiskey clouded my head.
As I began walking to the door I was stopped by a white jeep driving by. I have no idea why but I paused and stared, something inside me felt right. There are 4 guys, a brunette and a blonde girl, clinging on to each boys shoulder in bikinis that were two sizes to small for their already minuscule boobs. They seem to be about my age but were much more carefree than I was. Shaking off the jealous feeling inside I start for the door but the driver stopped me in my tracks. My eyes caught his, Im frozen, warmth spreads through my body like electricity, as a smile forms through my cheeks. My head begins to spin with the sight of his sideways smile back at me. Within seconds he's gone the jeep speeding down the road towards the beach. As quickly as the feelings came they were gone again, my mind quickly finding its way back to the whiskey, brushing off the gorgeous mystery man.
My hands find the handle, and with a push I stand face to face with an empty room except for two older looking gentlemen sloped at a table in the corner. A lonely bartender lost in thought washes down the counter with an old rag completely zoning out in thought not giving me a single glance. Some rock music plays quietly in the background, while the lights are dimly light. I find my way to a bar stool at the counter and finally make eye contact with the bartender.
"Can I get you something?¨ his deep raspy voice catches me off guard but I quickly settle back down with the softness of his deep brown eyes.
"Whiskey, please,¨ he hesitates, keeping his eyes locked on mine as he waits for me to change my mind, I assume. His eyebrows raise as he crosses his big arms over his chest.
"Sweetheart, are you sure you need that right now? You do know it's only noon?¨ His arm stretch out towards the clock, trying to prove his point. I slowly turn my body in the direction of his finger then look back towards him with anger burning in my stomach.
"Yes, I realize what time it is but I would just honestly love a whiskey, please,¨ he smiled at me and giggled under his breath making me return the laugh, allowing for me to breathe again and relax. What a weird town.
