It rained for two days straight. He has a lot of papers to finish and homework to do. This semester proves to be more hectic than the first one and it’s starting to stress Kit a little. He keeps eyeing his phone because Ming hasn’t texted him. It’s 9 in the evening. Ming usually texts him during this hour, when they’ve finished doing their schoolwork and are getting ready for bed; it seems like Ming is busy as well.
Kit highlights another sentence he knows he didn’t understand. He’s tired and his traitorous mind is elsewhere.
Finally, he reaches for his phone and texts Ming. He doesn’t usually text first because he prefers to call but this is different.
About to go to bed. Too much paperwork. He types.
No reply. Huh. Ming always replies back immediately, no matter how busy he is.
Kit chews on his lips. Thinking of sending another text but it’ll look like he’s seeking attention.
Which he isn’t.
He gets tired eventually. Still no reply from Ming and it kind of frustrates Kit to an extent. He doesn’t like it when people ignore him.
Instead of mulling about it he forces himself to sleep.

Kit has a sour look on his face the next morning. He didn’t sleep until it was almost midnight, and when he woke up there still weren’t any text from Ming. It’s frustrating. He feels like a highschooler with a crush.
He goes to class. No texts.
He goes to eat with his friends. No texts.
Kit went on with his day like he does, only this time a little grumpier. When classes ended it’s almost dark outside.
He sees Wayo waiting by the tables when the three of them got out.
No Ming.
“Do you guys want to eat outside? I’m kind of hungry?” Beam asks.
“Isn’t your husband going to cook for you?” his mouth runs on its own.
Beam gives him a face, “Why are you so extra pissy the whole day?” then he grins and bumps his shoulders, “Did you and Mingkwan have a fight?”
“Ah, P’” Wayo interrupts, “I forgot to tell you, Ming was absent today. He got sick.”
“That little shit,” Kit mutters. “I have to go. I’m not hungry.”
Kit hurries to his car. He’s angry. He’s angry at Ming for not saying anything. He’s angry at himself for not sending that second text last night. He’s angry at himself, for not caring enough. He’s angry at the rain. It’s probably the cause why Ming got sick.
He stops by a restaurant to buy some food for himself, some soup for Ming, before stopping by a pharmacy. He doesn’t know what to get. He doesn’t know what sickness Ming has so Kit gets everything from cough drops to fever medicines.
And as Kit drives to Ming’s apartment he realizes that he doesn’t have a key. What if Ming is asleep? How will I get in?
“Shit,”
He thinks of the times where Ming would go out of his way to fetch him after school and drive him home even though Kit specifically told Ming that he doesn’t need to. Ming is persistent like that.
He thinks of those times where Ming carried all their conversations. He wonders if Ming ever gets tired of him. He’s not really that chatty in person, and Ming can talk for days.
