Chapter1: It’s just appearances
I’m so excited. Today is my last day behind bars. I can’t wait to go back to school. It’s been seven months since someone blackmailed me into doing something I deeply regret. Just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable, even on a joyful day. My hands are shaking as I reach for the old leather bag the police officer is handing to me. I’ve been here for two hundreds and ten days of my life. So, getting out of here feels so unreal. I’m sure my friends are all grown up now. Oh yes I forgot. It has just been seven months. Feels like a lifetime though.
-Now get out of here. The officer urges me. No one want to see you again you murderer.
Right. I got it.
I’m getting out. I’m getting out. Finally! I whisper to myself.
But as soon as I face freedom in the names of the gates and the electric fence, the officer yells my name, stopping me right in my tracks. I turn around to see him holding a hairpin.
-You forgot this. He says, closing my hands around the small object.
I eye him with a surprised look.
-You must be making a mistake officer. I reply. This is not mine.
-Of course not. He retort. Care to explain what it was doing clutched to your jacket then?
-Ah….
Does he realizes that he just gave me a lead to who might have blackmailed me? I’m sure he does not. I stuff the hairpin in my leather bag.
-Yeah thank you officer.
Wait for me whoever you are, cause I’m going to hunt you down.

-You must be fucking kidding me! I yell in frustration.
Apparently someone anonymous has put a restraining order on me and I can’t go back to school. Also, that aside, they have decided to put me under surveillance. Well, everything is against me now. Like someone knew I would try to investigate and made some arrangements to keep me at bay. Well, I am. I’ve been assigned two bodyguards and a chauffeur charged of driving me safely to my new home (new prison if you mind).
-Wait! I scream and the car pull up in front of Eric’s house.
Eric. My boyfriend. I think it’s time to let him now I’m out of my cell. I bet he will be a good ally in the investigation. I tell my gorillas that I have to see someone and of course one of them insists to accompany me. They’re officially weirdos. In front of Eric’s door, I’m unable to move. What if he doesn’t want to see me? What if he doesn’t want me to be his girlfriend anymore? So many ‘What ifs’ are clouding my mind. I shake them all off. I have to explain. I want to…. I knock on the door. No answer. I look at my watch. 12:30. Normally at this hour, Eric is probably watching TV. So why isn’t he answering. I suddenly do something unexpected. I try the handle.... And the door creaks open.
-Irina? Eric calls in a husky voice. You know you don’t have to knock on the door before entering the room. And besides that murderer they call Julia is not here.
My body is boiling with anger. So all the time he supposedly spent in Italy studying was with my best friend?
-Actually it is not Irina.
And then I suddenly see that my bodyguard is not a gorilla. In fact, he is quite… a handsome man. Except that now, his entire body is tensed. His pretty eyebrows are creased and his hands are fisted at his sides. Huh, why is he angry?
-Ju… Julia?
I barely noticed that Eric has leapt from the sofa and is coming toward us like a wary predator. Boy is surprised to see me.
