I guess this is what started this whole chain of events, the death of the two people who loved me most in the world.

It was a saturday night in June when it happened, It was my parents wedding anniversary and so they were out at a meal, leaving me home alone. I blame myself for what happened, if I hadn't gotten myself all worked up, if my mind hadn't heard that crash in the kitchen, this wouldn't have happened.

I was sat in the front room watching TV when I heard a crash coming from the kitchen, it sounded like their was someone there. I grabbed my phone '11:10' my parents wouldn't be back for another 20 minutes at least.

Me being the person I am I was too scared to go into the kitchen, I hadn't heard anything since the crashing sound I was still worked up, the intruder could have realised their mistake and left or they could be being more careful and a lot quieter.

If my parents hadn't finished their meal yet I could still ring them and at least tell them what was going on. I picked up my phone again and pressed the contact 'Mum' to get ready to call her

No answer

I pressed the caller ID 'Dad'

No answer

I was mad, what could they be doing right now that was to stop them answering the phone to their own daughter, nothing that's what. I refused to give up and kept ringing until finally one of them picked up the phone, I had lost count on how many times I had rang and forgot who's phone I had currently rang.

"Hello?" I heard my Mum's voice through the phone, she sounded frantic "What happened, are you okay?" at that moment i felt stupid, there had been no other noises and i had been ringing for over 10 minutes. "Chloe?"

"I.. um..I heard something in the house, I think someone is here" I whispered deciding to stick to my instinct. There was muffled high pitched talking and then "We will be right there, ring the police"

I decided I should probably see if there actually was someone before I rang the police so I tiptoed into the kitchen and cursed out loud. I had made all this fuss because some unbalanced pots had fallen.

Honestly this could only happen to me, I felt so stupid. I rang up my mum again to tell her everything was fine but there was no answer, you would think she would answer when she thought someone was in the house.

I rang again and again and finally someone picked up but it wasn't my mother, nor my father for that matter.

"This is Officer Ash here, do you know the owner of this phone" a grim voice came from over the phone. My first thoughts were that my mum and dad had gone to the police but something about the way the officer was talking make me not so sure

"I am her daughter Chloe Halt" I answered slowly.

"I think you should make your way to the police station, there has been a crash"

Tears still come to my eyes as I recall that moment, what the officer failed to tell me over the phone was that my parents had died by impact in this crash.

You may ask "Chloe you only rang your parents you didn't cause the crash" but I did. Just before my mother ended the phone I heard her go to my Dad "There is someone is the house, who cares about the stupid speed limit, drive faster"

The cause of the crash.

Speeding.
