Renee West-Nicolai would be walking down the school hallway, carrying a binder with papers stacked on top. She was rushing down the hallway, trying to get to her next class, knowing that she only had a few seconds remaining. She quickly hopped into the classroom, placing down the stacked papers on top of the teacher's table, before rushing to the back row of desks. She sat down, huffing, before hearing the distinct laughter of someone outside the hallway.
Renee knew who this person was, as she'd suddenly duck her head down at the face of the desk, pulling out her notebook and pencil, ready for class. A young girl with blonde, shabby hair walked in, followed by a group of other girls, giggling. Renee would glance up a bit slightly, as the blonde-haired girl would catch her glance. The girl's eyes would narrow sharply, sending a chilling feeling down her spine. The girl's eyes would quickly stop narrowing, as she'd turn to her friends, talking to them.
Renee quickly looked away, hoping the girl didn't say anything. The blonde-haired girl would mutter something to her friends, before snickering. She then sat down in the desk right next to the one Renee was sitting in, as the girls would sit in the same row as the girl. Renee quietly tapped her pencil on the desk, before the blonde haired girl cleared her throat, obviously trying to get her attention.
"The name's Helena." The girl would speak, nudging Renee. ''I already know who you are, I've heard enough about you plenty of times.'' Renee would reply, trying to shrug the short, and ''casual'' conversation off. Helena seemed like your usual, "innocent" popular student, but deep down, Renee knew something was off with her. She had seen Helena get into confrontations with other students, some of those confrontations ending up violent when there was no teachers around. However, when Helena was in the sight of the teachers views, she was the golden spotlight, and probably one of the most innocent people you could ever meet.
Renee's thoughts were cut short when Helena spoke again, partially chuckling before speaking. "Where's the blue hair from? Did you dye it or something?" she spoke, curious. ''I just had it for a while, but it doesn't bother you though, does it...?'' Renee replied. Helena took a quick look at her hair, before clearing her throat again, speaking "No, not at all!" ''Oh, alright." Renee replied once more, as class would start.
There wasn't much engagement in the conversation from there for the remainder of the class. The bell rung, as Renee got up, looking at the exit. She was tempted to walk out, when a sudden tug brought her back. "I'll see you around?" Helena questioned Renee. Renee would nod, before smiling, heading out of class on her way home. The hallways were cramped with students leaving for the day, as it was usual for any other highschool in particular. Renee would place in some earbuds, tuning out of the world's sirens, listening to music. She walked at a steady beat, holding her binder, and walking home. Her head was hung low as she looked at the ground, counting the steps she took, and avoiding the cracks in the pavement. She kept walking, nearing her home. Renee looked at her wrist, checking the time on her watch, since she was a bit 'too lazy' to take her phone out of her pocket to check the time on it. She read the time as "2:43PM", before proceeding to walk a little bit faster.
Within around 15 minutes, Renee finally seen her apartment block, sighing. The building was actually pretty high up, and seemed to stand out compared to the other buildings with it's bright pastel blue paint covering it. She finally entered, feeling the blast of the AC gust at her face. Renee would head past the tiny reception that was usually pretty empty, and proceed to the elevators. She pressed the up button, before casually waiting, tapping her foot on the ground. The ding of the elevator could be heard through her earbuds, before the doors would open. She would walk through, before pressing the 14th floor button, as the doors would close. Renee stood there, as the elevator started to lift up, giving out faint dings everytime it ascended past a floor. After about a few seconds, it would finally stop at the 14th floor, with the doors opening. Renee would head out, holding her apartment keys, turning down a corridor to her apartment. She'd stop at the entrance to her place, placing the key into the lock, and turning. She twisted the door knob open, before taking out the key from the lock, and heading inside. She closed the door behind her, before dropping her backpack on the ground. Renee would place the keys on the kitchen counter, before walking to the window that looked down at the city.
She could see the cars below, and the skyscrapers above her, touching through the clouds. She'd turn on the TV, before sitting down on a seat, watching the news. According to today, a "particle transmitter" was being tested out today, in hopes of finding new elements to help with the current world. Renee had a spark of excitement go through her, as she had been waiting for this day for quite a while. She leaned back in her chair, sighing, before hearing that the test wouldn't be distributed until 8:45PM. Renee would sigh in slight frustration, before looking back at her watch. She would have to wait for about 5 hours and 35 minutes before she could even watch the event happen from the TV.
Renee then suddenly had a thought pop into her head. Why not fall asleep? Take a nap? Surely it wouldn't hurt to, since she did have a busy week at school, and a nap was probably one of the best things she could need. She then decided to, before nodding off.
Somehow, the work must of really paid off, because Renee took a so called "nap" for 5 hours and 30 minutes. She stretched a bit while sitting down, looking out her window. It was dark, but there would be flashes of lightning once in a while. Within those seconds of lightning, thunder could be heard. "It's been a while since we've actually had this good of a thunderstorm." Renee would mumble to herself. She got up, and decided to walk around her apartment for no specific reason. She then would lean on the kitchen counter, watching the TV from there. A reporter would step in, and begin to speak, before a clash of lightning would have a pretty loud thunderclap, as the power in her apartment shut off. If this was even a storm at this point, it was serious. After about a few seconds, the lights would come back on, but the TV wouldn't. Renee would sigh, as she knew that in order to turn it back on, it was to head to the roof where one of the routers was placed for some odd reason. She'd take off her sweater, and place it on the couch, before heading out her apartment. She walked up the stairs this time, before opening up the door to the roof. The wind had knocked her back a tiny bit, as the rain felt like mini needles pricking Renee's skin. She quickly attempted to walk to the router, and successfully did, despite the gusts up onto the flat roof. One simple wrong move, and she could've been blown off. She was like a stick compared to this raging storm. She opened the router box, to see the backup generator switch was somehow "busted", as it was ''ripped'' off from the base. "I guess the storm probably somehow affected the safe box, and tampered with the controls." Renee mumbled, knowing this wasn't the first time. She walked over to her mini radar, in which it stood proud and strong unexpectedly in this raging storm. She would start to try and fix the other backup router, as a deafening echo was heard in the distance. Renee stood up, looking through the almost opaque rain (due to how heavy it was.) over at the lab, to see a huge, yellowish wave consume Everything in it's path. Within that path, outlets could be seen sputtering out electricity, indicating that the city's power was quickly ''fading'' to dust. The wave kept consuming objects, with a deafening roar as it headed close to the apartments and the rest of the city. She'd stand there, paralyzed in pure fear, as the wave would suddenly knock her back. As unlucky as she could be right now, she was blasted, and flung into the air, as a bolt of lightning struck her, literally being electrocuted to death.
The wave would keep going, as Renee suddenly dropped to the flat roof, faint blue lightning flickering around her body. Blood trickled down her head, onto the floor of the roof. She would lay there, unconscious. Renee knew when she would wake up that from this day forth, the city would never be the same, but little did she know-Her life had changed too, along with others. Who knows? Maybe the others could be a new influence to the troubled city, or new dangers that persisted never-ending gloom of anarchy.
