Paloma knew herself like the back of her hand. She recognized when she was nervous, sad, angry or happy but mostly, she always knew what she was feeling, and right now, she didn't. Never in her life has she been this utterly confused about anything, she was even more confused at the fact that she didn't even know where her confusion originated. It was a never ending cycle of confusion.
Was it the kiss? No, she didn't even mind it happening, maybe it was the embarrassment from kissing Finn? Nope, she didn't even acknowledge it, could it be the simple fact of him being near her? Oh my god, what the hell is wrong with you, or could it be that the boy she were supposed to hate kissed her? Stop, OH! I know! Maybe it is because she actually enjoyed the kiss but doesn't want to admit it? I SAID STOP.
"Oh, um I'll go then" Jack looked at the girl before walking away.
"No, Jack! Come here, I'm sorry I was just thinking out loud" she spoke as the boy reappeared from his previous spot.
"It's fine" he quickly shrugged it off not thinking much about it "wanna hang out?" Paloma nodded vigorously.
"Yes please, I'm bored out of my mind and my thoughts are slowly drowning me" he laughed as he signaled for her to follow him.
You see, Jack and Paloma met when Jack entered the circus. Paloma was 16 back then and Jack was the same age, almost 17. They dated 9 months before Sophia came along. Sophia wasn't a slut but she naturally attracted men with her unique looks, so of course, Jack ended cheating on Paloma with Sophia. Paloma forgave her but never fully trusted her again. She hung out with Jack as friends strictly knowing if he did any moves on her, their friendship would come to an end. Since, Paloma hasn't dated anyone in fear of getting hurt again. A lot of people have been after her, but she never fully took notice of that.
"Where are we going?" Paloma questioned the slightly shorter boy that was standing a few feet away from her.
"You'll see but I bet you'll love it" He smiled looking back at her. No one knew but secretly, Jack still had feelings for her. He hadn't tried asking her since he knew the most common answer he'll get is a complete flat reject. Poor him.
Paloma rolled her eyes and followed the boy closely behind moving their feet in sync. She still found Jack cute and she knew she still had the slightest feelings for him. But sadly for Jack, to her that was just a platonic thought that was unlikely to even happen in the first place.
"But really Jack, where are we going?" He shrugged and continued walking. The brunette sigh in annoyance still following the boy.
Finally, after a good 7 minutes of a continuous "Are we there yet?" from her and the ocasional shrug from Jack we arrived at a door in the east wing.
"Have you ever been here?" He looks at her. Paloma replies with a 'nope' with a pop on the p. It was truly a foreign occasion for the girl to not know a place in the circus but she truly enjoyed it once she found a new one "come with me" he grabs her hand and opens the door.
The room was completely empty with an old dark green wallpaper and a curly staircase that went up. He pulled her up the stairs into a white room, he continued up and stoped once we got to a room that had cold concrete walls and floors. They were completely naked and seemed to never have been painted. On the right, a metal door was placed on the far end of the wall.
"What is this? Are we even allowed to be up here?" Jack nodded and opened the heavy metal door. Her hand missed the warmth of his but she reminded herself, 'it was just platonic' .
Once he finally managed to open the door three times his size he pulled the girl outside. She awed at the view. A beautiful almost fully set sunset with the stars already making an appearance on the deep, dark blue with pink mixed that is the sky. They where on the circus' rooftop which had a few old pieces of furniture set to make a little living room area.
"How'd you find this place?" She looked at the boy. He laughed at her stunned face, the skies light making her already marked cheekbones seem deeper than usual. Her dark brown eyes lightened showing the milk chocolate color they have with the small bits of dark brown and green sprinkled around. He realized just then how deep he was falling for her and he only thing he could hope for is that she feels the same. Unluckily for her, she was falling for him, but she restrained herself. She liked Jack however she loved to read, and she didn't find the popular 'spark' soulmates had. She felt nothing.
"You're beautiful" he mumbled. Her already rosy cheeks turned a bright red and the boy laughed in embarrassment.
"Thank you" she looked at the boy. He looked at her too. He slowly leaned in. Paloma panicked but didn't stop the boy, she froze once their lips met. Jack was kissing her deeply pulling her in with his hands but she didn't have a reaction. She didn't kiss back, she didn't pull away, she did nothing but stare at the boy wide eyed.
Finally, Jack pulled away smiling from ear to ear. Paloma smiled back slightly embarassed. She felt bad, after what Jack did it was very present in her mind that he liked her, no LOVED her, but she couldn't return the feeling, she liked Jack but she didn't think too much of it.
"I missed that, this. I miss us Paloma" Jack grabbed her hands looking up at her. Paloma knew she was about to say something she didn't exactly mean but she still said it, lying not only to herself, but also her bestfriend.
"I miss us too, Jack" the boy kissed her forehead slightly standing on his tiptoes to reach the taller girl.
"Then lets make this official, lets make us official" He smiled at the girl exiting the rooftop walking back towards their rooms. Paloma regretted what she had just said so much, she really dreaded having to break Jack's heart, but she couldn't bare to reject him after all he's done for her. Once they reached Paloma's door Jack gave her another short kiss. "I'll see you tomorrow baby" Paloma cringed at the hated word but shrugged it off waving him to his room. He obeyed and left the girl with her thoughts.
She slid down her wall and let all her tears flood down her face. She was tired of lying to people, she was tired of giving people fake hope, she was tired of rejecting people she actually wanted in her life, she was tired of the circus. Her job at the circus demanded alot of sacrifices to be made. She had to keep a clean image, a serious face and elegant movements at all moments when in reality she was everything but that. She liked Wyatt and her coworkers, she liked what she did but she never liked how she had to fake her image and her talents. She was much more than just a pretty but serious face who was elastic enough to make weird positions with her body. But to her this was it, she was a part of the circus.
