Chapter One: Oh, How It Ended

"I fucked up." I stared down at his lifeless body and backed away. "This wasn't supposed to happen. It... This wasn't supposed to... It shouldn't have ended this way." I told myself as I turned and ran hastily away from the body. I had to run. I didn't have a choice, my life was ruined. I couldn't go back... no, I needed to become someone else. I needed to run and hide. My life was over, and it was all my fault

My name was Ane, Diane Donahue. I was born to a family of six. I had two sisters and one brother, and I was the youngest. My older sisters were twins, Roberta and Rosa, and they were the eldest children. My older brother was considered the middle child, and his name was Reyes. As the baby of the family, I was spoiled and got everything I wanted with a simple cry or plead... Until my father, David Donahue, became ill and died. My mother, Alexandra Donahue, remarried to an awful man named Howard Lexington, and that is when my life changed for the worse.

I was only twelve at the time... I was young when everything began to fall apart for me. I hated every second of that godawful wedding. I glared at everything. I glared at the relatives that smiled and chatted about how wonderful the wedding was. I scowled at the colors and that man who became my mother's new husband. Of course, my mother looked so beautiful and elegant in her white dress, but, god, I hated that wedding. My siblings were happy. Especially Roberta, she rambled about how delighted she was that mother was getting remarried. I made it clear as crystal that I loathed every moment of the wedding.

"I hate this stupid wedding," I muttered and crossed my arms. I sat next to Reyes with a scowl as we waited in the house for Mother.
"Obviously, this is the thirteenth time you've said that. I've been counting." he rolled his emerald eyes at me. Reyes looked much like how Father did. He was tall, thin, and his hair was dark brown. It would always be a mess though because Reyes hated fixing his hair, but today... His hair was slicked back nicely. He looked a lot more like Father.
"Then stop counting." I glared at him.
"Why, of all the days, are you deciding to act like a brat?" Rosa sighed and tried fixing the bow in my hair.
"Because this is dumb. I hate this." I pulled away and swatted my hands at hers.
"Mother is getting married, and we are going to have a new father. You should be happy. Mother is in love again and you shouldn't act this way. You'll ruin her big day." Roberta scolded as she paced back and forth. We were waiting for Mother to finish getting ready for the wedding. The ceremony was to begin when the bride was finally ready.
"I don't like him. Mama should find someone else to marry." I pouted.
"Well, Mother loves him, and he's quite the gentleman. I think he's a wonderful match for Mother." Roberta smiled calmly.
"I hate this," I muttered under my breath.

"Look at my Darlings." Mother beamed, walking into the room.
"Wow, Mama, you look gorgeous!" Rosa gasped at the dress.
"Thank you, Rosa. You all look so wonderful, even you, Reyes. Have you actually fixed your hair?" Mother laughed graciously.
"Only for today." He stood up and shrugged.
"Oh, look at you all." Mother stepped back and smiled at us. "I am so happy to share this with you wonderful kids." She stated with tears in her eyes. "I know it's not easy for all of you." she looked down at me, "But this is all for the best. I hope you all understand what this means for our family." she added.
"Yes, Mama, we understand." Roberta smiled.
"And we are all happy for you, Mama, honestly." Rosa bumped me slightly.
I forced a smile, "I love weddings!" I lied.
"And you look like an angel, Mom," Reyes stated lastly.
"Oh, Darlings," Mother stared happily. "Let's get this show on the road, shall we?" she smirked.

The wedding was horrible, in my opinion. Oh, nothing went wrong, but I hated every minute. Everyone else loved it, but I wanted it to end, or, better yet, never happen. After the wedding, my mother and her new husband, Howard Lexington, left for their honeymoon, and our Aunt Mei watched over us until they returned.
