No ship
Ghost auTakashi Shirogane had just recently finished moving to a new house. It was clean, nice looking, and was surprisingly cheap. The house also had a gigantic library. Shiro walked up to his room, which was up a beautiful staircase, and laid down the rest of his possessions (hehehehehe). The man yawned and walked over to his bed. He pulled back the covers, laid down, and slept.
He had gotten up to get a drink of water in the night, and was about to head back up, but a sound stopped him. It sounded like bare feet running down the stairs. He wanted to rub it off as his imagination, but it sounded so real. Shiro decided to stop and listen for anything else, but nothing else ever happened. So he continued his way up the stairs, back to his warm and safe bed. Little did he know this wouldn't be the last of the strange occurrences.
In the morning, Shiro decided to look around the house, because the library had him curious. What kind of books does it have, and how many books does it have, were just a few questions in his mind. He made it to the door to the library. He placed his hand onto the knob, but quickly flinched back. The door knob was cold. Not the normal cold that door knobs are, it felt like someone placed it in the freezer over night. Slowly, he reached out again, and the cold was gone. "That's strange.." he whispered. He turned the brass knob and walked into the library. To say it was amazing would be an understatement, there were shelves that stretched from wall to wall, every section packed with books of different colors and names. A table was in each corner of the room, along with a ladder beside one of them. But the statue was by far the best part. The statue was a wooden barn owl. It was beautiful, there was so much detail put into it. He walked over to the large bird, but stopped about halfway there. On the far right corner table was two stacks of books with one opened in the middle. Shiro's interest in the owl was quickly stolen by the books. No one had lived there for a long time, so why were these books out? Once at the table, he picked up the opened book. Illnesses from A-Z. Ghosts weren't real, right? When he was done in the library and going anywhere else that caught his eyes, Shiro was exhausted. He blew some of the white strands of hair out of his face and climbed up he stairs. He opened the door to his room and gasped. His pillow was being weighed down by something, and it looked like his sheets were covering a body up. Well crap. He grabbed his computer quickly and dashed out of the room. Ghosts were definitely real. He sat down at the kitchen table and decided to do some research. He searched and searched for anything that might help with what he was seeing. It took him a while, but finally he found something that caught his eye. He opened the article.
Holt Sibling Death- 1990
'Two weeks ago, Matthew Holt, 17, was said to be ill from a disease not yet known. Last Tuesday, the young boy died of said disease. Depressed from her brother's death, young fifteen year old Katie Holt, cut her hair and began to wear her brother's glasses in memory of him. She continued to do nothing but research with little rest for two weeks. She wasted away in the library of the Holt's residence. May they rest in piece.'
"So the books must have been the girl, and the thing in my bed must be the boy." He inferred. Then Shiro pulled out his phone and called one of his closest friends, Allura, so he could stay at her place. After thanking Allura for letting him stay on such short notice and drove home. As he stepped out of the car and was about to close the door, something caught his eye. Up in the library window, a young girl seemed to be crying. Shiro's breath caught in his throat, but continued to walk inside, he froze in the doorway. At the base of the stairs, the same girl he saw in the window was sobbing. "Hello?" He called to her. Slowly, she lifted her head up. Her transparent eyes were still flowing tears as she wiped her face. She hiccuped a couple of times before taking off to the library. "Wait!" Shiro picked up his pace and ran after her. Finally, he caught the ghost back at the library. " I can help you." He slowly stepped away from the girl, hoping that would make her feel safe.
"Y-You can..?" She asked, voice trembling with sadness.
" Yes, but I want to learn more about you. I've never believed in ghosts until now." He chuckled, giving her a reassuring smile. " I'll start, my name is Takashi Shirogane, but people call me Shiro." She nodded slowly, confused by his actions.
" K-Katie...Holt. But M-Matt called me P-Pidge..." Shiro nodded.
" Okay, Katie, do you want me to help with your research?" Katie whispered a yes and went back to one of the tables with the illness books. Shiro went to go retrieve his laptop.
"W-What's that?" She pointed to his device.
" A computer. It'll get faster results than going through all those books." He smiled. "What were your brother's symptoms?" She stopped responding at that. She was sobbing again. Then she vanished. Gone.He slept on the couch that night, too scared to see the Holt boy in his bed again. In the morning, he stretched and yelped when he saw Katie sitting on the arm of the couch. " I'm sorry about yesterday. I still really miss my brother." The ghost explained. Shiro nodded.
"We'll continue then?" Katie nodded. The two walked over to the kitchen table and he opened the computer. "So what symptoms did he have?" Shiro questioned again.
" He started to complain of pain in his neck, jaw, shoulders and arms a couple of days before he was restricted to the bed, he started to vomit and was nauseous, also his heart beat was fast." After every word she said, a clicking sound would come from the keys on his computer. Finally, when she was done, a couple of tears fell onto her cheeks.
" Hey, you'll be okay, we'll figure it out." Shiro tapped the Enter button and read through the articles. After a minute or two had gone by, he pointed to one. "Coronary artery disease. That seems the most likely." Shiro looked up from the screen and smiled at her, grateful he could help.
" Thank you! Th-Thank you so much, Takashi!" Katie smiled and hugged him. Shiro flinched, she was freezing. He patted her head and she let go. Her smile hadn't dimmed at all. The ghost stood up and walked over to the staircase, Shiro following close behind. She made her way up the stairs and paused at his,-her brother's-bedroom. She opened the door and walked in. Katie was instantly embraced by her brother. Matthew Holt turned and looked at Shiro, placing an icy hand on his shoulder.
" Thank you. The Holt family is forever grateful for what you have done for us." With that, he walked over to the wall, which had faded into a white mist. An excited dog barked from inside. Katie turned and nodded at him one last time before stepping inside.
" Thank you for letting us find peace."Holy cow that took me a long time. I'm still open for suggestions!
