Today marks the month anniversary of my parents death. They died due to a huge mistake that someone decided to make...
I'm Kai, Kai Samuels, and I now live in my room by myself. I hate people also, so that doesn't help me very much with living on my own. Though nobody cares, because our government tries to hide it. We have a dictatorship, our dictator being Julie Mane. She's a total jerk with a stick up her- well you get the point, she's really uptight. She leads everyone on the ship I live on called The Rebirth 3175, it was created in 3175 hence the name. Only the richest and smartest were allowed on the ship, and it's existed in space ever since.
"Hey Kai," someone said to me. I turned around and saw that it was Robin, Robin Emmerson. He wasn't really my friend, but we talked a lot.
"Oh hey Robin, I was just thinking about you," I replied to him.
"Were you really?"
"No," I sighed and looked at him. Sometimes I don't want to be bothered, but people never get a hint.
"Why do you look so glum?" He asked me, tilting his head to the side. I just looked at him and didn't reply. He gasped once he realized, "It's the month of your parents' death. I'm sorry, do you want to talk?"
I just shook my head, but he sat next to meat the table I was sitting at. The thing is, he didn't talk, he just sat and looked at his hands. I appreciated it, I really did. It was nice to have company, even if they didn't talk.
I missed my parents, they were nice people, but they were too smart in Julie's eyes. They saw a flaw in her thinking, but she didn't want to admit it. She wanted to keep things her way. Our ship is running out of resources, which is a problem because we can't go back to Earth. Food, oxygen, and water are depleting and it's making people go crazy due to lack of it. Julie thinks the only way to solve this is to kill the dumbest of the whole group. Let them go so the smartest can go on. My parents found something though, I never knew what, but I know it was something special. She killed them before they could tell anyone else and told people that they had failed a test to prove them worthy of staying on the ship. Once you turn eighteen, you take the test every year and if you fail, you're gone. People don't mind, as it's better if the smartest survive for a new world. But I knew that Julie was lying to people about my parents, nobody else believes me, except Robin...
Robin pulls me out of my thoughts, "Yo, are you okay?"
I looked down at my hands, I was pinching the insides until they bled.
I nodded, "Yeah I'm fine, I didn't even realize.."
"C'mon lets get you cleaned up, before anything gets infected and you get in trouble."
I nodded and got up following him, he brought me to the doctor's area.
"Uh, Kai is bleeding. Can we get some supplies please?" He asked the lady at the front desk.
She looked up at me, and I held up my hands.
"Oh, okay. Can I have your first and last names please?"
"Yeah, Kai Samuels and Robin Emmerson." She wrote something on a paper and then pointed in the supply room. We walked in and Robin started grabbing things. I watched him grab bandages, neosporin, and rubbing alcohol. He quickly grabbed my wrist and whisked me out of the room, taking me to a unisex bathroom.
"Robin, I can do this myself," I said laughing as he ran my hands underwater.
"Please just let me do this one thing for you."
"Ugh, fine."
"Thank you."
I sighed and looked up at the ceiling as he washed, cleaned, and wrapped my hands. "All done," He said, washing his hands. I nodded as a thank you and walked out of the room with him, into the hallway.
We continued walking, trying to avoid loose wires and sparks, the place was falling apart and nobody would fix it. I guess nothing can last forever, even a ship that was marketed to keep us alive forever.
"Ay, is that Robin?" We heard a male voice behind us ask.
"Yeah it is, but who is he with?" Another voice, a female, asked. Robin turned around first, I just wanted to walk faster to avoid more people.
"Hey, it's Winsley and Ash!" Robin exclaimed excitedly.
I sighed and turned around. There was in fact a female and a male. They walked up closer to us, the female, who I assume was Ash, was smiling happily, along with the guy.
"Who's the girl, your girlfriend?" Ash asked, teasing Robin.
He laughed, "No, guys this is Kai. Kai meet Winsley and Ash." Ash smiled and waved at me and then looked to Robin, "Good, then you don't mind if I have her?"
I felt my face grow hot, and I looked to Robin, he was blushing too. She just looked at us and laughed, "I'm kidding, by the way."
I laughed awkwardly, I didn't want to seem like I took her seriously, which I did, but that wasn't the point. Robin's face started to go back to his normal shade and he smiled, "Okay then, you guys want to come with us?"
"Where are you guys going exactly?" Winsley asked.
"Down to Earth," I replied sarcastically, "Actually, I don't know. Where are we going?"
"I like this one, you're a lucky dude," Ash played.
"I said that we weren't dating," Robin replied.
"Why do you have to make it sound like dating me is the worst thing?" I asked him, sounding offended.
"Yeah, I think she seems quite lovely," Ash smiled while we all walked. I just looked at her and smiled.
We walked by the doors where everyone goes to eat, I peered in and stopped everyone. Everyone was arguing with everyone, even about silly things. I caught a few sentences here and there.
"I don't like your hair," Someone yelled.
"Why are you standing like that?" Another one asked.
"Maybe if you stopped slurring your S's your husband wouldn't have left you."
Okay, I was done listening to that. I quickly caught up with everyone, those sounded like things I would say without even realizing it.
Ash looked back when she heard my footsteps running up to the group, "Ah, welcome back princess."
My face grew hot, but I smiled, "I'm not a princess."
She kept teasing me along the way, I wish she stop though. I can't tell if she's just joking, or if she's actually serious.
"Hey, can you stop that?" I asked her.
"Stop what?"
"Your teasing, I can't tell if you actually mean it or not."
"Aw, I was just toying with you."
"Oh, well stop."
She nodded and turned around. "Or was I?" She said under her breath and laughed.
I sighed and kept walking, to who knows where.
"I just met this girl, but why am I so intrigued by her?" I asked myself in my head. I looked up to Ash, she was smiling and laughing with Robin and Winsley. I couldn't exactly hear what they were saying and laughing at, but all I know is that it made Ash happy. She really was pretty, and her smile could make anyone smile from miles away. That doesn't answer my question to why I want to know so much about her though. Maybe it's the fact she's funny, or seems fun. I mean, Robin seems to have fun with her, but I don't want to learn much about Winsley. Just Ash. Maybe I envy Robin for being able to just talk to Ash with no problem. Anytime we talk, something mean or stupid comes ou-
"Oy mates, be quiet. Look!" Winsley hushed us and pointed into a room.
