♪ Sorry to my unknown lover

~Gene's POV~

I heard the doorbell rings from downstairs and I groaned as it had woken me up from my short-lived nap.

I lay lazily on the couch in my home, waiting for someone to open the door because I was too uninterested to get it myself.

I thought Dante was gonna get the door, but I didn't hear anyone walking around. There was another knock at the door, annoying me more than I already was.

"Dante!" I yelled outwards in no particular direction because I didn't know where my brother was exactly. I didn't hear a response. The person, or people I don't know, at the door rang the doorbell again. "Dante, get the damn door!"

Again, I heard no response from the blue haired boy. I roll my eyes a slowly push myself off the couch, trudging over to the door, grumbling about how I have to do everything around here.

I pull open the door and see the few boys on the porch. A recognized most of them, seeing them around here a lot. It was Garroth, a sophomore, Laurence, another sophomore, Travis, a freshman, and one person I didn't immediately recognize. I thought I've seen him before in a few of my classes, so he must've been a senior like me. So there's 3 sophomores, including Dante, one freshman, and one senior.

The man I didn't know was tall, like the exact same height as me, which is tall. He had swampy green eyes and light Y/h/c hair. His face almost seemed familiar and his hair also reminded me of someone.

"Hey, Gene." Laurence greeted me.

"I'm guessing Dante invited you all, right?" I question with no interest.

"Yeah, that's about it." Garroth answered.

I hear footsteps come from behind me. I look over my shoulder to see Dante running to the door.

"Where the hell were you?" I ask my brother. "I was sleeping and I had to answer the door for your friends."

"I was in the bathroom, sorry." Dante said sheepishly; scratching the back of his neck. "Thanks for coming guys, c'mon in."

The four boys began walking in as Dante turned his back and motioned his friends to follow him. As the small group headed towards the basement, I stuck my arm out in front of the new person; stopping him in his tracks. I backed him outside again and onto the front porch, then closed the door behind us.

"Pardon me for asking, but who the f*** are you?" I snap. I don't like strangers inside my home, especially ones who seem familiar but I can't place. Like a sense of deja vu, that's uncomfortable.

"Dude, I'm in like two of your classes. We've meet before, Gene." The boy laughs.

"That doesn't mean I'm going to pay attention or care about a little sh*t like you."

"Oh, that's cute, Gene." The boy chuckles, then begins giving me a dark and menacing glare, which I return as well. "I'm Tony." He introduces himself, doesn't help me though.

"Tony...what? That really doesn't help me, idiot." I say, continuing to glare at this guy. I swear to Irene, I've seen his messy light Y/h/c hair before. It's just not clicking in my mind. "The name Tony is pretty common and boring, so I need a last name."

"Hey, at least my name isn't the same as the main character from the damn Emoji Movie." The guys laughs at me.

"I would shut your f***ing face if I were you, Tony—"

"Y/l/n."

I stop my insult. Now it makes sense. I knew his face seemed familiar, I see his sibling every day. His hair color is almost the same, just a lighter version of it. I also remember running into him in the lunch room and in detention here and there.

"That shut you up, didn't it, Gene?" He snarls. "Does my last name seem familiar to you? Well, a good friend of yours has it too, so it should."

"I remember you oh so clearly now." I retort. "You're Y/n's older a**hole brother."

"The one and only." He smirks, pointing at himself. "And you must be the one my little sister drones on and on about." My face falls slightly.

"What?"

"When I was invited over by Dante, I knew that he was your brother. I also could tell myself that I would finally meet the first my little sister seems so interested in," the boy reminisces, "and it turned out to be you."

I didn't say anything. I really didn't know what to say in a moment like this, all I really wanted to do was sock him in the jaw. I urged to wipe the smirk off his face.

"I also remember how she told me you danced with her." Anthony said. I almost blush at the memory, almost. "I remember thinking, 'My little sister is finally getting somewhere with a guy' but then I heard your name. I hadn't known you very well, but I disliked you I'll admit, so I really couldn't make assumptions on who you really were as a person."

"Why'd she tell you all of this? Doesn't she have her mom to talk to about this stuff?"

"We live with our father. I'm surprised that she didn't tell you that our parents are divorced, seeing how close you are and all that." Tony said.

Then I remember her telling me that in the park a while ago, when I spooked her and showed her my pocket knife.

"She actually did tell me that." I say.

"Wow," he said, raising one eyebrow at me and he held an annoying smirk on his features, "an a**hole and a lier. I most definitely don't like you."

"I really don't give two sh*ts if you liked me or not. Your opinion doesn't mean crap." I snap, rolling my cyan blue eyes at the high school senior.

"Really, Gene?" Tony laughs loudly, mocking me, annoying me greatly. "It seems pretty clear that you have an interest in my sister, great or not."

"And what if I do? What if I don't? It's not like you can do anything in any matter."

"Oh," he chuckled softly, glaring at me again with a seemingly crazed smile, "but I do." The boy shoved his hands in his pockets and began talking his foot against the concrete porch floor. "I'm Y/n's big brother, I've known her since the day she was born. She trusts me more than anyone at your school. Whatever you say to her or what to try to make her believe, I can convince her otherwise. I guess I have a way with words, hmm?" He hums at the end.

I can only just stare at this man. I usually don't admit it, actually, I never admit it, that I'm wrong; in this case, I am. Y/n's brother knows her better than anybody, and I truly believe he can convince her to hate me. There isn't a lot of people in this school who actually like me, so Tony has a lot to work with to make her hate me.

"Your sister won't ever hate me." I snap. "She's too headstrong and annoyingly stubborn to change her mind about people just due to someone else's words."

"That's true, you got me there." Tony said, shrugging his shoulders, hands still in his jacket's pockets. "But if you know that, then you also should know she jumps to conclusions way too quickly. And let's be honest, some of the things you do are a little sketchy."

"Like what? Name one thing." I retort.

"Blackmailing Y/n's friend Aphmau for kissing a guy. And you know for sure that Aphmau won't lie to Y/n that you did that."

I stand there, shocked by all this boy has said. He's seen through my bluffs, proved me wrong, and exploited my past. This man knew way too much for my liking, probably for most people's liking, but especially mine. And how did he find out I blackmailed Aphmau?

"How? What?" I stutter.

"Looks like little Gene is flustered." Tony mocks. "Now, I'll leave you be and go hang out with my friends. I'll also be generous and give you a warning."

"And what kind of warning is it?"

"Stay the f*** away from my sister." He snaps.
