Once again I woke up screaming. My body jolted as I was carried out of my night terror. I spread my arms, searching for the warmth of another body in the sea of rough, canvas mattress. I sighed in relief when I was able to find my sister. I had another dream about the reaping, the thing that could end my life as easily as you could flip a coin. I tried to push all of the thoughts as I climbed into bed with my mother, and snuggled close to her. I let visions of prancing in medows, of rainbows, and of all the good left in this world overcome me. Then right before I let myself slip away, I realized ,with sadistic humor, that there wasn't anything good left in the world.
