Beep! Beep! Beep! Ugh, Jake sighed as he rolled over in his bed listening to the worst sound known to man. His alarm clock had woken him up bright and early at 6:00 am just as it did on any other normal day. Though today was no normal day and if Jake had know what he was about to get himself into he might have decided to skip out on school entirely and sleep in instead. He couldn't have know what would lie in store for him, but he had a project due in Biology and he had to pass. He had already failed this course twice and if he failed this next project he would fail again for sure. Mr. Gron, his biology teacher always said that he had so much potential, Jake got sick just thinking about this phrase. He hated it when teachers told him this he always tried his best, at least he thought so, but he didn't know what everyone else saw in him. Everyone always told him he had some latent potential, but he didn't see it. Sometimes he felt useless, he wasn't athletic like the jocks or uber smart like the kids on the math team. He didn't fit in with anyone, but everyone he had every looked up to in his life always talked to him like was some kind of prodigy. Although it didn't look that way to him after he failed biology twice. He couldn't wait for this day to be over, he was totally unprepared for the project. He thought retaking the class would be easy, but every year Mr. Gron changed all of the projects, so that he couldn't just use the one from last year. "This is as good of a time as any, I might as well get out of bed to get ready for the day," he said aloud to himself.
As he got out of bed he peered out of the window in his bedroom, outside the sun had risen bright and early just as it did any day. Jake knew he would have to hurry as there was a heatwave moving through his area, since he was walking to school he wanted to start his walk before the sun could get too high in the sky. Jake finished his preparations for the day and quickly grabbed a Belgium waffle that his mom had prepared for him. As he ran out of the front door the intense heat was a big shock after being in his air conditioned home all morning.
