Chapter Two

Skylar

I woke up with a bark of happiness and jumped up. I ran to the kitchen where my family was waiting for me.

My mother smiled proudly at me, with a hint of sadness in her watering eyes. "I just don't want to see my little pup grow up." She said as the tears fell.

I walked to her, wagging my tail and licked her, "Aww, I love you too, Skylar."

"Enough boo-hooing, you have a mate to find." My father said.

He's the beta of our pack, the South Side Pack. My mother was the Alpha's daughter of another pack, the Nightshade Pack.

I heard a clap of hands and my fathers hand pointing towards the hall, signaling me to look for my mate. I trotted down the hall, and stopped at the end.

I stuck my nose in the air and took a deep breathe. I smelled nothing special. Same old, same old.

I followed my mother's scent up to her room and pawed at the door. She immediately let me in.

I looked at her, then put my head down, meaning no luck. "We can have a meeting with another pack. Maybe then you could find your mate. Would you like that?" I barked in return.

"Which pack should we call?" She asked, "We could try my old pack. Nightshade and South Side are close enough." I let out another bark.

While my mother was calling the other pack, I got one of my friends, Maggie, to help with a bath and brush my fur and teeth.

"Skylar. Your bath is ready." She called from the bathroom. Whenever she gives me a bath, it is never weird because I'm basically a dog.

She finished washing me with vanilla shampoo and dried me with a thick, fluffy towel.

Then she brushed my teeth and combed my coat.

"We'll be downstairs waiting." She said before walking out my door.

I looked in my mirror and went in a small circle. I huffed a breathe and walked out my doggie door.

When I got back to the kitchen, I barked and went out the doggie door leading to the outside world.

My mother and father shifted into their wolves and led the way towards Nightshade territory.

It only took about thirty minutes to get to their territory since we share a border. My father howled and he and my mother both shifted back.

Since they both have Alpha or Beta blood they still have their clothes on.

I heard a few Nightshade members walking towards the border's edge. The Beta, the third in command, and two warriors came to us.

"We were wandering if we could have a mate meeting. It is my daughter's sixteenth birthday and she has no luck finding a mate in my pack." Father said.

Then the Beta spoke up, "Follow me."
