Year One

You were incredibly nervous. You were sitting alone on the Hogwarts express and biting your lip in an almost panic. You didn't have any friends from Hogwarts. Well, at one point you had a friend who went to Hogwarts.

She was two years older than you and one of your best friends. Her name was Jennifer Agnus, and she was a Ravenclaw, you thought. You couldn't remember too well. You had only known Jen for one summer before she moved away again to go to France.

But even if you could manage to make friends right off the bat, would you be in the same house with them. What if the people in your house didn't like you? What if your roommate was rude?

You had started to go into a spiral of worries when a knock came at the door of your little sitting space. You snapped your head over to see who it was. Another first year, a girl, stood by the door. She had a pleasant smile and thick brown hair.

"Hello," She beamed, "I'm Hermione Granger."

She stuck out her hand for you to shake, and with a warm smile you took it.

"I'm (f/n) (l/n)," You introduced yourself.

Hermione stepped fully into the room, "Pleased to make your acquaintance. Mind if I sit?"

Your eyes went a little wide. She actually wanted to sit with you?

You nodded quickly, "No, not at all. There's plenty of room."

Hermione sat down across from you and immediately struck up a conversation, "Do you have a certain house that you want to get into? I heard a few other first years in the hall talking about which houses were," She made little air quotes with her fingers, "Better than others."

"Hm," You looked at your feet for a second, gathering your thoughts. "Well, I don't think that certain houses are better than others. That's like saying a white dragon is better than a black dragon. It's really just what you prefer. My friend, Jen, was a Ravenclaw and she was really smart. I don't know much about Hufflepuffs, other than that they are hard worker's and kind. Slytherin's are very ambitious. As for Gryffindors, they are known for their bravery. Hmm.."

You looked up to Hermione with your conclusion, "I think I want to be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor."

She was nodding her head, processing what you said.

"Do you have a preference?" You asked her.

"Well," She started, "I read "A History of Hogwarts" over the summer and learned some very interesting facts. I think the lure behind Ravenclaw's house is very interesting, but personally I would like to be in the Gryffindor house."

You grinned, we had something in common. "I hope we both get in Gryffindor together."

"Yeah! That would be great!" Hermione lit up.

Just then another knock came at the door. It was a black haired boy with a small toad in his hand.

"Do you mind if I sit with you guys? The rest of the train is full." He had an apologetic look on his face. You glanced at Hermione just to make sure she was okay with it. She didn't seem to mind.
