"I don't understand," I stuttered as I paced around my room like a mad man while on the phone with Kasey. "This makes no sense! They're not suppose to be here now.. And he's not suppose to be older than us! And cute!" I groaned, increasing my pace as the list of things wrong with this situation grew in my mind; and there was no way I was going to ignore the fact that he was extremely handsome.
"He's cute!?" Of course that's the only thing Kasey heard out of anything I said. I groaned once again, as I plopped down on my bed and stared up at my white plastered ceiling.
"Yeah, but we don't have enough rooms.. I don't understand where he's going to sleep."
I could hear Kasey tapping away on her keyboard as she talked to me. "What about the guest room?" She reasoned.
"His younger brother is sleeping there- plus, there's only one bed." I rolled over onto my stomach, and pressed the phone to my ear with my shoulder as I reached for my tall glass of iced tea.
"So he does have a younger brother! Maybe I can baby-sit?" I could already hear the smile in Kasey's voice, and see her beaming eyes if I were to say yes. But of course I was already babysitting Ross.
"Sorry, Kase, I'm already babysitting Ross." Kasey groaned on the other line, and muttered a few words to herself as I laughed.
My phone beeped with a call waiting as I continued to talk to Kasey about the situation. "Kase, I got to go. Elaina's on the other line."
"Ugh, I really don't like that girl." Kasey began to go off about her feelings towards Elaina. Those two haven't been okay since fifth grade where Elaina won for student council president against Kasey.
"Sorry- bye!" I ended the call quickly, switching over to Elaina.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked as I sat up right onto the bed.
"What's up? Girl, I heard he's cute! And older!" I mentally smacked myself for answering Elaina's call. Of course she would only go off about Ryan.
"Who?" I played oblivious as I got up from my bed, and walked over to my door. I checked outside to see if the coast was clear, before closing and locking my bedroom door.
"Yes, yes, yes, but don't get excited yet! I'm still not okay with Scott and his family coming to live with us."
"You have a hot boy living with you now- how is that bad!?"
"Eww! Elaina! He's my step-brother, gosh!" I scoffed as I couldn't believe Elaina's words. It was true- Ryan just might be my future step-brother, and I had a boyfriend anyways.
"Why must you be so loyal to Jeff? And so.. Legal?" I laughed as I could hear Elaina sigh in the background.
"Elaina, Jeff is my boyfriend, so of course I'm going to be loyal. And yes, Ryan is.. okay, but he is still my step-brother and I am only fourteen, so chill!" I blurted out, slightly out of breath as I glanced outside my window to see two moving trucks in my driveway.
"Is there whole family there?"
"Mhm, now they are. At first it was only Ryan- let me tell you, that was awkward! Thankfully Kase saved me with her phone call.. And you too."
"Psh, thanks for forgetting me." Elaina chuckled on the other end of the phone. The creak of my door caught me off guard, and made me jump. I quickly turned around, to see little Ross peaking in.
He looked just like Ryan- his hair was a tad lighter shade of brown, though he still had those big blue eyes. He was a tiny little boy, with a pair of khaki pants and a stripped blue shirt. In one hand he held a toy racecar, in the other he held my door knob. Wait, I thought I locked it?
