He was sitting on the railing of the porch looking out to the road. I froze afraid to move. What was this stranger doing sitting out on our porch. I cleared my throat. "Hmm! Hmmm!" He didn't move. "Can I help you?" I finally got the courage to speak. He turned his head slightly so I could see half his face. He turned back to face the road. Why was he ignoring me? I became frustrated. I laid my blanket down on the porch swing and put my book down. I walked back over to him, "Excuse me, can I help you?" I asked again. This time he turned and stared at me. He looked me up and down. I was in my pajamas and I didn't have a coat on.
He pointed to himself, "Are you talking to me?" He asked. Is he being sarcastic?
"Well you are the only one out here." His eyes widened at my comment.
"So it seems." He said as he jumped off the porch railing and eyed me with curiosity. I shivered.
"It's freezing out here. Where is your sweater?" I asked him as I rubbed my arms trying to warm then up. He laughed. His smile was perfection. He was handsomely rugged. I could not help but watch as his muscles tensed.
"I don't need one." He said as he eyed me curiously. "How can you see me?" He was looking at me as if I was a new species. I met his gaze and noticed his eyes were gorgeous.
"You are right in front of me." I said as I looked away quickly.
"I gathered as much. This is interesting, this has never happened before." He began to pace back and forth mumbling to himself. He seemed to be debating something.
"Do you mind telling me what you are talking about?" I crossed my arms and tried to look at him sternly. I doubt I looked as serious as I felt.
He stopped pacing. He was staring straight at me now and I felt my heart stop. His eyes were indescribable. I wanted to capture that moment for all eternity. "I'm a Moonlighter. You are not supposed to be able to see me."
"Im Grace," I said quickly, "Nice to meet you, Moonlighter." I held my hand out and he began to laugh at me. Truthfully I had only caught half of what he had said. I was distracted by his intensity. How embarrassing.
"My name is Kye not Moonlighter." He was laughing harder than before. Even his laugh was attractive.
"Oh sorry, what is a Moonlighter?" I did not understand. I would try really hard to pay attention to his words this time. Grace focus.
He sighed. "You don't want to know the answer to that question." He said as he turned his back to me. I stomped my foot, what is it with this guy? I walked over and stood in front of him. "Look, Mr. I'm-being-all-sexy-and-mysterious, if you are going to hang out outside of my house, I think I have the right to know who you are and what you are doing here." I was beyond irritated.
His eyebrows narrowed, "You think I'm sexy?"
Oh God why did I say that. I was so frustrated I wasn't sure what I had said. I started to panic. He leaned up against the wall and crossed his arms. I watched his movements mesmerized once again. Stop it Grace.
"I'm dead." He said nonchalantly, "Not so sexy now, am I?"
I scoffed. I heard what he had said this time, but I didn't believe him.
Just then we heard a loud scraping sound coming from the road. It was as if someone was dragging metal. I could make out a tall dark figure heading towards us. Before I could let out a scream, Kye pushed me up against the wall, and covered my mouth.
"He's coming," he said in a hushed whisper, "If you scream he will find you."
