"I didn't know you were already here." I told him with my hand clenching my chest.
He smirked.
"I didn't want to interrupt your family time so I just slipped on in." He pointed out. He walked towards me as I slowly exhaled. Keep it together.
"Have you thought about what I told you last night?" He crossed his arms with a smug look on his face. The light shined off of him in a way that made him look godly. I turned my focus on the small fairy figurine on the dresser before my mind could abandon me. I knew I already couldn't speak. My breathing became shallow.
"I know it's not easy to believe. Grace look at me." My eyes succumbed to his command before my mind could comprehend what he had said. He motioned with his head for me to sit on the bed. I walked over next to him and sat down on the edge of the bed. He stood for a few seconds before he slowly slid over next to me. I felt his hand tuck my hair behind my ear. My eyes froze locked to the wooden floor.
"I can see your heart speed up as you struggle to catch your breath." His fingertips danced across my cheek. My eyes shifted slowly to see his expression. His eyes had softened and his lips were parted ever so slightly. My hand reached for his hand caressing my cheek. As I wrapped my fingers around the back of his hand our eyes locked. For a split second I felt it. The invisible power that linked us together was coursing through every vein in my body. A gold stream was illuminating under my pale skin. My heart had been locked in a deadbolted coffin in a body that was not my own. I knew then that Kye had given me something far beyond my comprehension.
The doorbell rang breaking the magic that had began to stir. I jumped back looking at my arms pinching at the skin wondering where the golden stream had gone.
Kye sat still as stone staring at me with a hint of vulnerability in his eyes.
"Grace your friend is here!" Mom had yelled. I started toward the bedroom door when I looked to Kye who had already disappeared. I frowned as I looked back and opened the bedroom door. I walked through the hall almost holding the walls for support after trying to understand what had just happened. I looked at the front door and saw mom standing there next to Jason.
Jason was dressed in jeans and a v-neck that accentuated his bulging muscles. His sweater was unzipped but he had his hood up over his head. When he saw me he smiled.
"Well I'll leave you two." Mom said as she walked away. I reached the door and shut it behind me.
"Hey Jason what are you doing here?" I laughed. He grabbed me and locked me into a tight hug that took me by surprise. His arms were strong and mine were dangling to my sides unsure of what to do with them until I awkwardly put them around him. My head was pushed into his shoulder and I noticed Kye leaning against the rail. Kye's jaw was clenched as I let go of Jason. Jason laughed.
"Grace ease up. You are in Glendale now." He punched my shoulder softly. "I was out driving and thought I would stop by and see if you wanted to come with me." He was being very friendly and I was ecstatic I had made such a good impression on him. I could not help but let out a smile. I glanced over at Kye who had been rolling his eyes at that very moment.
"I was a little busy right now Jason where is it that you wanted to go?" I asked trying to sound as truthful as possible.
He bit his bottom lip and said, "Anywhere with you." My lips parted just a bit from his response. Jason laughed as he grabbed my waist and pulled me down the porch stairs. Kye stood on the porch and I could have sworn he muttered something fowl under his breath. I would have been able to hear it if it wasn't for the thunder that had just shook the ground.
