I've lived my whole life in fear. Fear of judgement, fear of going wrong, fear that I'll disappoint someone or scare them away. But if I'm honest, I don't actually know what it is I'm scared of. What will happen if I do less than everyone else? If I take a risk, is that really such a bad thing? Maybe it's not so bad to be less than perfect once in a while.

" Hey Alison, look at this. " Kelly asked.
" What is it? Is it another address book? Because, let's face it, no one uses them anymore. " Alison replied, brushing a layer of dust off some old CDs.
" No, it's your diary from Year Six! Ha, it's so tacky. Where did you get this, the pound shop? Kelly grinned.
" Probably, I was about ten when I wrote this. Hey, I remember this... " Alison murmured as she flipped through the pink pages, reading the words written in pink glittery gel pens.
" What does it say? Is it about all your boyfriends? Did you have any boyfriends? " Kelly giggled pointing at the stickers of old bands adorning the pages.
" Nah, it's just about... clothes and stuff. " Alison muttered.
But one page had caught her eye. A long list entitled " 40 things I'll never do " that she could barely remember writing. Reading through it, memories came flooding back. A eleven year old girl, extremely similar to Alison, not being able to take risks and have fun. Nothing has really changed, thought Alison.
" What are you staring at? '40 things I'll never do', what is that? " Kelly examined the list.
" Yeah, it's silly. "
" Jeez, you were boring back then. ' I will never drink', ' I will never lie ', you have to have more fun!"
"I'm really fun! I can... I can do lots of fun things! I'm a barrel of laughs! "
" Did you just say 'barrel of laughs'? Girl, you need to break the rules more, let your hair down. "
" What do you mean, I'm totally badass when I want to be. I lie about lots of things and, erm, drink and stuff. "
" Pfft. In another universe maybe. "
" Just you wait, I will not do everything on this list. I promise. "
Kelly raised her eyebrows and went back to fiddling with Alison's old DVDs. Ali needs to let go, stop trying so hard to be perfect, she thought.
Alison just looked at the list with a steely glare. Challenge accepted suckers.
