I came home to a more than welcoming devoted woman who only wanted us to get things back on track and proceed with our wedding plans. Assuming she had me well spanked, and well in hand now, she took over and left nothing for me to do but wait until the time to walk down the aisle.

In full blown fake mode, she even allowed me to include a very select few members of my family in the wedding party. None of which were at all thrilled with the prospect. If there is one thing my family has a true skill at, it would be spotting a fraud. Brittany had been unmasked before we had begun to date. I didn't have one family member who trusted or even liked her. They tolerated her for my benefit, but that was the most I could ask of them. There was no hope of any of them ever befriending my soon to be bride. Cordial was the best I could hope for, and that was only if they weren't forced to be in her company for any extended amount of time.

It was no secret that every single one of them awaited the misstep that would grant them access to her ass. I couldn't blink for too long without one of them asking me if they could take care of business for me. It was a constant game of wits to convince them that Brittany had only done what I allowed or permitted her to do. I never questioned their loyalty to me and knew beyond the shadow of any doubt that I had only to give the hint of a nod for any one of them to beat the breaks off of her with a smile on their faces. Needless to say, Brittany knew that too, they made no secrets of their feelings toward her. She played that hand very carefully and stuck close to me whenever we were in any of their presence.

Knowing Brittany for the sneaky and conniving person she was, it was no shock to me when she came to me teary eyed only two days before our wedding, with the devastating news that my mother and sisters had said some very hurtful things about her behind her back. She wanted no parts of them and would appreciate it if they stayed away from our wedding. She already had back-ups to take their places. It was only when I let her know that if my family wasn't welcome then neither was I, that she agreed to give it some more thought. I had no qualm with walking away from a marriage to her. She was fine in the role I had selected for her, without the bond marriage presented or the gifting of my last name to her. One less noose she would get the chance to hang around my neck.

Thrilled with the idea of bagging the sham of a marriage to her, I went out drinking with my boys that night. I had the world by the tail and I was sitting on top of it. High as a kite and balls deep in this pretty little red bone I had just met, my phone rang. I let it go to voicemail, only to find out, when I finally saw it was a call from Brittany I had missed, that she had found a way to make amends with my family and was now, more than happy to have them share in our joyous occasion. I had to give an exasperated sigh and recondition myself to accept what was coming my way.

I went on to my wedding trying to view it for the spectacle that Brittany had intended it to be. I would put on a show for all the people who came specifically, to see if I would go through with it in the end. I tried not to smile when I looked over at my mom in the pew directly behind where we stood. I could tell hers were not tears of joy but of dread and disgust. I had given her everything she had never wanted in a daughter-in-law, and now all was left was to make the most of it.

It looked to most people like I was being hugged in congratulations after the ordeal, but the vast majority of them were actually warning me to be careful. I can't express how many, what have you dones, were whispered into my ear. I simply smiled and hugged each person back. This was my arrangement and I meant to come out of it victorious.

With Brittany securely at my side, I mistakenly expected things to get better. That was my first marital mistake, but, by far, not my last. The numerous warnings and well wishes had not fallen on deaf ears, but I had taken them all with a grain of salt. I could handle this. I could make this work out in my favor. I should have taken the hint from the sparring that took place on the way to the reception. I was being given ultimatums about not drinking too much, not dancing with certain individuals when we got there, what I should eat, and when we were expected to leave. Instead, I took it all in stride and decided, I would do things the way I always had, my own way.
