Olivia Jacqueline Lupin. She deserved her name.
She sat up straight in her bed, her waist length, strikingly white hair messed up. Olivia Lupin, a twelve-year-old, exceedingly bright witch, who has been worried about her new life at Hogwarts ever since the summer holidays had started, which was to begin on the first of September. She couldn't sleep. She felt as if a dementor was attempting to suck out all the happiness inside her, and replace it with miserable thoughts. What if she doesn't make any friends? What if she is treated as a freak for having mixed magical blood? What if her secret is discovered? Slowly, as the tears fell, numerous as the magical stars painted on her bedroom ceiling, and as the endless questions buzzing in her head demanded answers that couldn't be known yet, she felt sleep overruling her eyelids. She laid her head back on the comfortable, soft pillow on her queen-sized bed, her mind finally gave up and was dragged by the oblivion of sleep into the blackness.
"WAKE UP!" Someone shouted, making her jump up in bed. The next thing she knew was the feeling of icy water slapping her alarmed face hard.
"AARGH!" She screamed, wiping the water from her eyes and jumping out of bed to chase the unfortunate person downstairs. "REMUS YOU UNCIVILIZED JERK! COME HERE YOU —!" She got hold of Remus Lupin. She was punching him everywhere, as he roared with laughter and shouted in pain, trying to pull her now scarlet hair, hoping she'd stop.
"Liv! Stop – ow – OW!"
"You two better stop right now!" Came the hazardous voice of Hope Lupin, who was busy in the kitchen preparing breakfast.
"You're so lucky mummy saved you. But I'm not done with you." Olivia warned him, still outraged. She stood up and climbed the stairs back to her room.
"I love you!" Remus called after her, sounding innocent and soft.
"I hate you!" She called back, trying to sound as soft as him, and slamming the bathroom door shut.
The chaotic jumble of thoughts and anger inside her head became a foggy illusion as the water in the shower fell in a downpour, making instant contact with her skin, and leaving behind that one thought she couldn't get off her mind. The sensation of steamy water had always calmed her down. But now, though she felt no longer angry with Remus, even the water didn't seem like it could stop her from worrying about Hogwarts.
She traveled downstairs wearing a short-sleeved, white sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, and a pixie, aqua haircut. The smell of fresh bread mingled with the strong vanilla cupcakes scent and cooked bacon filled Liv's nostrils and made her relax as always. She remembered the first time she had baked vanilla cupcakes with her parents; the last thing she had expected back then was for the cupcakes to turn out so delicious after the chaos that had taken place in the kitchen. She smiled at the thought of her five-year-old self covered in flour and laughing hysterically.
