Gone

For so long I have been here

But you didn't notice me

For months I have been trying

But you never tried to see

Only when the music blared

When the sounds and the lights flared

Only then did we finally share

One small moment face to face

A few short minutes in your embrace

Arms wrapped tightly around my waist

I savoured the moment, breathed in the feeling

My heartbeat quickened, my mind was cheering

Head resting lightly on your shoulder

In no time at all the song was over

We broke apart, you stood aside

Not a word did your lips provide

Not a frown and not a smile

I could not tell for quite a while

How you felt about that time

But I know as you look at her

As you compliment her lovely work

As you tease her, as you smirk,

That it never mattered anyway

It never mattered what I thought

I always had to stay apart

From you and her, apparently "friends"

It doesn't change a thing; it's the end

After the valentine and birthday card

After the hugs and help when work was hard

After the dance, so meaningful to me

I finally know just what you see

I'm just a girl; you never cared

My mind is a whirl, I'm full of despair

I know that another moment will never be shared

And now you leave us all behind

You look at her, but you are blind

To the one who admired you for so long

Staying only with the one who thinks you're a mess

Unfortunately, I could never confess

But you will be gone in just two weeks

And I know you will never remember me

But maybe, just maybe, one last dance

Maybe I will have one more chance

Before the time comes when you are not there

No more embraces that we can share

So I can know for sure if you really care.
