Athan could feel the moisture inside the clouds as he traveled inside them. All he could see was a haze of white; varying tones, each layer had a different amount of puff.

Suddenly a commanding voice spoke through the clouds directly at him.

"Mr Madorian. I know that today is the last day before vacation, but, even still could you avoid drooling on my desks." The voice was followed by a small deflated huff.

Even inside the cloud he could feel the beings pursed lips and head roll.

Then like a clap of thunder, "I'm not going to tell you again! Wake up and pay attention."

He shot awake and before him stood a very huffy looking Mrs Ravakas.

"Sorry Ma'am." he said in a timid sprawl.

"Thank you. For gracing us with your presence." She quickly turned her back on him and proceeded once more through the lesson plan.

The noticeable yet muffled giggling could be heard from beside him. He figured it cheap, that his so-called friend Imon was having a right laugh at his expense.

"What were you dreaming about this time?" Snickered his friend beside him. "My guess is something to do with dragons."

A blush spread the full length of Athan's face. "I so knew it." said his friend with another quick snicker. "If I fell asleep in class, my mum would have a fit." Imon said.

Athan couldn't help but give a quiet chuckle,  "Do you remember when the school mistakenly informed your mum you weren't in class."

"Yeah man, she went absolutely berserk. I tried to explain that I was there, only made her more crazy." Imon giggled. "I still have the bruise, from the hiding I got that day."

"Excuse me Mr Madorian, first you fall asleep in my class and now you disrupt it with your incessant chattering."Mrs Ravakas's look was semi-stern. As if to say that she sympathized that it was close to the holidays, but yet, the show must go on. She proceeded on by saying, "Since it is clearly fruitless to try teaching you new material, lets have you recap some of the old material." An audible groan passed through the class. But she payed no attention to the classes protests, "Athan since you are nicely refreshed from your nap, I'm sure you wouldn't mind demonstrating how to cause water to surge up by creating an anti-gravity pipe? Oh, also make it so that the water sprays up every 10 seconds automatically."

He gulped whilst she handed him a bucket of water and a pipe.  Imbuing objects with magic had never been his strong point, it required too much memorization for his small brain. To be honest every class he took required memorizing stupid magical methods that did specific tasks. Then to top it off, he then had to learn how to put all the methods together in order to actually do anything useful with the magic. At that moment he wished he was back in primary school, there all you learnt was your ABCs and how to skip rocks with your head. Oh what simple times he thought.

He knew the key to this was visualization all the teachers had drilled it into him, the more he could visualize the specifics of the system the more likely the magic would work successfully. He ran over the things he would have to visualize; the creation of anti-gravity was easy. It merely required him to imagine the water going upwards. The hard part would be the 10 second spurts, as it would require visualizing the passage of time. He kind of knew how to do it, but he definitely didn't understand how it worked, not one bit.

Standing up at the front of the class, quickly brought a sense of dread. He wanted to make this work so bad, especially since Phyrra was smirking at him, she was by far the best in the class. No that's probably wrong, more like best in the school. He disliked her with a passion, she always had her hand up in every lesson. If that wasn't enough she always gave him a dithering look when he was with his friends, as if to say that goofing off was beneath her. Typical bleeding elf he thought. He guessed his feelings were due to insecurity, but considering the look she was giving him today, he easily brushed away his guilt.

Huhhh, whistled the air as it passed through his mouth. It took all of his concentration to visualize the movement of the water and the movement of time. Finally he was done, he plopped the pipe in the bucket of water and mentally started the time process. If this went well maybe he could get that B after all. Suddenly the water in the whole bucket raced up gushing up into the air then quickly reversing direction and hitting the floor with a thud. Damn. Once more the water in the bucket rose up and quickly fell to drench the floor. Laughter had broken out amongst the whole class, all directed at his abysmal failure. He racked his brain seeking to know why everything had gone so wrong.

"Mr Madorian can you explain to the class what went wrong?"  said Mrs Ravakas calmly, whilst she quickly undid his magic and whisked the water through the air and back into the bucket.

"It's obvious Mrs, he forget to imbue the magic directly to the pipe. So, as the water wasn't channeled through the pipe it exploded out of the bucket." said the obviously smirking Phyrra. Clearly enjoying his failure. He gritted his teeth to contain his retort in his throat.

A slightly miffed Mrs Ravakas said, "Phyrra, I directed the question to Athan, but yes. Remember class, that for an object to do a specific task you have to embed the instructions inside the object." At that moment the bell rang releasing him from his failure and also from school atleast for the next few months.

On the way out he passed a triumphant looking Phyrra, who snarkly said to him "I can't believe I used to think you were cute. Huh. Your not even a clever human." With that she smartly walked off down the hall. Athan just looked dumbfounded after her, his rage slowly boiling inside him.

"Don't pay any attention to her bro" said Imon who was coming to stand beside him in the corridor.

"She's just jealous you know, that I wouldn't go out with her last year." spat Athan angrily to the air were Phyrra had been.

Guffawing loudly erupted from beside Athan, "Just imagine you and her together." said Imon. Upon which he snorted "You and her together.  That wouldn't work on two different levels." quickly followed by another snort.

A blush quickly erupted over Athan's pale features. "Are you all set for camping in the whispering forest. I hope you don't wet yourself when you hear it whisper. Although, I am super shocked your mum let you go though."

"Smooth transition bro. But I have you to thank, the only way she would let me camp was because I told her I was going with you and your parents." said Imon.

Athan shook his head and laughed. "You dirty liar, you better pray she doesn't find out, otherwise she might just leave you in there."

"Come on. I'm going with you the master huntsman. Nothing can touch me and besides, we're not going in very far. Merely to the Iguel cliffs." jersterly said Imon.

"Honestly the whispering is overrated, merely gives it a false eerie feeling. People make too much fuss about that and the fact that it borders the shadow lands. I assure you nothing bad will happen to us." said Athan trying but failing to act nonchalant.
