I am sitting on the front bench of the church. I am wearing a light purple silk dress, with a good pair of white heels. Everyone in the church, turns behind to see the most awaited person of the day, the beautiful bride. She has held her father's arm as she gracefully walks down the aisle, she looks extremely beautiful, happy and facinated with the entire thing, even way more facinated than she was, when she saw the elephants for the very first time. Tears rolled down my eyes as I remembered the day when she was just a handful, and today it was her wedding day.
Her father all fifty nine and a little grey haired by now, has held his tears back with a professional smile on his face. He is wearing a black tuxedo and is looking absolutely stunning. Well now he isn't as sharp and chisel jawed as he was before and every time he smiles, he gets wrinkles on the side of his eyes.
Even though he looks a little different, the thing that hasn't changed is, his adorable eyes and his handsome looks, I don't know if other women still finds him to be attractive but I think I love him too much,to think he is any less.
He hands the bride to her groom and holds my hand as he sits beside me but not even for a second, does he takes his eyes of his daughter, he only looks away with a shy smile when the bride and the groom kisses each other.
As far as I know us, I think we both sobbed a little when the bride and the groom said "I do" and were pronounced as husband and wife. I wanted to check on him, if he was alright but I was pretty sure I couldn't stop my tears, after seeing an emotional Daddy sob, so I preferred not to look at him. I am sure if somebody, someday successfully invented a time machine, where people could go back in time, he would definitely steal his daughter from her husband and put her back on his lap.
As we were walking out of the church, he looks at me and says "after you, she's the most beautiful bride I've ever seen" "I would take this compliment but she looks way beautiful than any other bride I've ever seen, even me, in that case", I tell him. He smiles and says "you're right" and bends forward and kisses my head, he stops for a few seconds, looks at me with a playful smile and says "but I hope my daughter is loved by her husband, just like how her Mum is loved by her Dad" he playfully laughs and puts his right hand on his cheast, "in love with her Mum for the last thirty eight years" he says, I laugh at his cheese dipped line, that always tends to come so abruptly, in the most unexpected places.
Shortly he gets pulled by Ivan and Terrain for some work, and then as I see him walk away with them, I realize how this man has really kept all his promises, right from the time when we were just twenty one, wearing our holiday hats, eating foods with difficult names in a Thai market, to this very day.
When I look back at those days, it feels the same, the young couple that we were but today he walked his daughter down the aisle and I don't know if that wouldn't make us feel old then what would.
As I walk towards the crowd, gathered in the garden, the beautiful bride comes and hugs me and says "Mum it feels like just yesterday when I made you and Dad, meet Vivian for the first time and see, today we are married", "It feels like just yesterday when your Dad and I held you in our arms for the very first time and today you are married" I tell her, she laughs and hugs me intensely "but now as we are married, I hope our love doesn't get old" she says and as soon as she says that, I exactly knew what I had to tell her, something that her Mum, herself had understood on the very day of her daughter's wedding. That with the right person, love never seems to grow old, infact it just keeps getting better with time.
