It's a sunny afternoon and I am sitting on the same purple couch. I still remember, when we were installing new furniture in our newly made house, Ethan actually wanted a green couch, so that it would compliment our green coffee table that we had back then, but this couch was in a particular shade of purple which I really liked, so I insisted him on buying it. He was a little hesitant at first, as for the fact that it might not go well with the green coffee table but nevertheless for my happiness,on the day of our one year marriage anniversary, he bought the couch home and ever since that day it has always been with us.
Years later when we were getting new furniture for the house,Ted wanted to buy this couch from us, but then it was Ethan who didn't want to sell it to him. He told Ted it was priceless.
Right now it doesn't look like the way it first looked, it's fabric has tattered,it's colour has faded. Ethan always says "darling it's just not us who grew old together, the couch also grew old with us"
All of our three children Gwen, Ivan and Terrain have pooped, peed, and threw up on this couch, when they were young, all the four dogs and two cats we had, have tore and scratched it's fabric. Our children and pets have jumped on it, played on it, slept on it and that's the reason why the two of us have been restoring it, for the last fifty five years. The couch is just not a piece of furniture in our house, it holds the memory of the young us, our children's childhood, basically it shows how far we came together and that's the very reason why it's so dear to our heart.
I see him cutting some apples on the kitchen table. He has lost most of his hair and the few remaining ones have all turned silver. He was a tall, well built fellow but now somehow he looks more rounder and shorter. He had adorable dimples on both his cheeks, dimples which now have hidden themselves under the fine lines of age. But he is still my handsome man with or without those dimples.
His smile widens as he hears children running inside the hall way and into the living room. Six of them in total, about the age of twelve to five, four girls and two boys. He distributes the apple halves to all of them and makes them laugh. They talk and exchange their jokes with each other for a while and then the children run out to play.
He comes with a bowl of apples on one hand and a bowl of diced avacados on the other hand. "Here are your avacados honey" he says "Thank you so much Gan-pa" I tell him and make space for him to sit. "You should start eating apples nah-na, your cheeks aren't as red as mine" he says,I start laughing and touch his cheeks "you should start eating avacados too, as your cheeks aren't as soft as mine" I tell him, he touches his cheeks with both his hands and pretends as if he is very concerned about his complexion and says" I think you're right honey, I should start applying your 'avacado with milk' mask and do a monthly facial for a smoother complexion" we both start laughing and we keep laughing until Gabby our youngest grandson comes crying with a bruised knee.
