Chapter 17

Gajeel

It was raining, ironically. I was holding Levy's hand and she was already crying a little. So was Lily.

It was strange seeing Levy wear all black. She looked good though.

We sat down in front of the casket with Snow and her girlfriend. We were at a church, with colorful glass windows that made the room look darker than it already was.

Everyone in Damien's guild was there, they all seemed upset. Especially one girl, who Levy recognized to be the girl who was with Damien when she first met him.

At first the pastor talked a while about the circle of life and other crap.

Then we watches a slideshow of pictures of him, I've never seen Levy cry so much.

When that was done Snow went up to talk.

"Damien, he was my brother as you all know." she did one of those sad laughs, "he was.. my rock. Even though I did some pretty messed up things, he still stood by me."

She paused, "He was always happy, I remember him when he was young, running throughout the house with, well he doesn't like to talk about him. But his best friend. And our older brother and sister would be there too. Its my fault he's gone!" she started crying, "I got involved with that asshole Roy! I wanted to show my family I could be strong too! I ended up killing our older brother and sister! And I caused his accident! I killed his best friend and messed up his legs. Now he's gone too! Our parents were killed when he was four, he ran away and met a dragon that he learned his magic from. Then I took away our older siblings, and his best friend. And yet... he still loved me."

She took a deep breath. "He raised over it all and focused on the fact that he still had me.... but I almost lost him, thanks to Roy. When I got back he actually forgave me? Isn't that crazy? I tried to kill him, and he forgave me. He's inspirational, I'm going to try my best to be more like him. He was all I had, but before he left he gave me you all," she gestured towards her guild. "Now I have a new family. But no one can ever replace him, if I could I'd go back and take his place. He will always be, my little brother." she smiled at his casket as tears fell down her face. "Thank you," she said then got down and sat with Tina again.

"Would anyone else like to go?" the pastor said.

Levy's hand shot up, "I would," she said.

"Are you sure?" I asked her when she stood up.

She smiled at me, "I'm sure," then ran onto the stage.

"Hi, I'm Levy. Well Damien was a really close friend of mine, even though I only knew him for about nine months." she laughed a little bit, "but Damien would have to be one of he nicest guys I've ever met. He saved my life twice, and he called me every weekend to see how I'm doing and we'd talk for a couple of hours." She smiled down at his casket, "the last thing he told me was 'you'll be the most beautiful bride!' I wanted to postpone the wedding, because its hard imagining him not being there for it. But I know he was excited about it, and I know he'll be there at heart. Thank you Damien, for everything!" She stared crying then ran off the stage and sat next to me again.

I hugged her and tried to make her stop crying.

"You go, Gajeel." she pushed herself out of my arms.

"Me? Go up there? And say what?" I asked her.

"Go talk about Damien!" she pushed me up.

I wasn't going alone so I grabbed Lily. Then we awkwardly walked on stage, "I'm Gajeel," I said. "Umm.... Damien was a good guy, a great guy, a fellow dragon slayer. He saved my brides life twice, so I really owe him. He even saved my life once, and I can't repay that debt. I'm sorry Damien, but we will miss you. Even if you weren't part of our guild, you'll always be part of our family." I bowed my head a little then got down and sat with Levy.

Lily looked nervous and I gave him a thumbs up.

"Well," he said, "Damien was my friend, um.. we got along really well. He told me he loved to hang out with me because I reminded him of his best friend. But now he's with him isn't he?" he giggled a little, "Damien will forever stay I'm my heart, thank you."

Then Snow got up, "well thank you everyone for sharing, We all see the love for him. It makes my heart warm. Thank you everyone." She smiled.

With that everyone stood up and either left or stayed around and talked to people.

Before Levy could get into a conversation I pulled her out the door.
